The AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone from Audio-Technica features a professional-quality shotgun design, suitable for field and studio use. It consists of the company's AT4900b-48 microphone body and AT4053b-EL hypercardioid head capsule, providing a hypercardioid pickup pattern for minimizing off-axis noise and improving the isolation of your desired sound source. The microphone's internal transformerless circuitry reduces distortion and provides correlation of high-speed transients. There is a direct-coupled balanced output for a clean signal under high-output conditions and a strong turned-brass housing for durability. A switchable high-pass filter reduces low frequency noise, and a -10 dB pad picks up loud sound sources. The package includes a microphone stand clamp, a windscreen, and carrying case.

Audio-Technica AT4053b Reviews
Fulfilled everything everyone said about this microphone
I've been using cheaper overhead mics for my video production company for years . . . generally, the audio was good, but never crisp . . . this mic has changed everything! Professional, tight, clear microphone. This is a pro mic and at a great price.
I didn't know that my shotgun could be so much better.
Great sound for an amazing little package.
Sounds amazing
This sounds amazing and will elevate your sound!
Best Mic I Own
I have owned this mic for a little over 10 years now. I've used it for everything from outdoor boom mic, indoor boom mic, voiceover, multiple instruments (amazing on a cello!!).... simply put, it's better sounding and better control than any other mic I've used. When in doubt, put the 4053 on it, and you'll smile from ear to ear. It has yet to disappoint me. I eventually sold my NTG3 because this sounded better by a LOT. never used the NTG again after I got this mic. It's my favorite mic. I'm VERY tempted to get another... probably replace my studio podcast mic with it. It can sound full and warm without having that muffled/dark sound the SM7B and others of its ilk tend to sound like.
Good value, good sound.
Recently I decided I wanted a hypercardioid condenser to compliment my Audio-Technica BP4029 MS stereo short shotgun (which works for about 80% of my sound recording scenarios). I was looking for something with a wider pattern. After some research and listening, I eventually settled on this microphone. With the generous B&H return policy, I had plenty of time to run several tests. After lots of recording and listening, decided It is perfect for recording dialogue and sound effects when you can get the microphone close to the source. The built-in low-cut filter is essential since the microphone has a very good (some might say exaggerated) low-frequency response that sometimes needs to be tamed right at the microphone. If you have the budget for a better sounding microphone, that’s great, but you’ll have to spend a lot more to find a hypercardioid condenser microphone that outperforms this little critter. This ain't no Schoeps, this ain't no Sennheiser, but it is a good solid value and when mounted in a good suspension with the right placement, it will provide you with good sound.
Great sound at much lower cost.
Great sound for great $$$. Considerably less expensive than its competition and sounds nice. The sound I got from it took EQ well. Pair it with the Rycote Softie-Lite 21 Fur Screen Kit (21 mm), a nice boom pole and you'll be a happy camper.
Big upgrade from shotgun mic
Can't believe how long it took me to learn that shotguns aren't a good choice for interior dialogue. Upgraded to the 4053b from an NTG 2 and haven't looked back.
Great quality for the price!
Great quality for the price! I would recommend to anyone recording in a studio room!
