Bescor MP-101 Reviews

Simple and Reliable

We have used 4 of these for 8 years. One just quit and we replaced it with a new one. They are simple to set up and operate and have been reliable. I like the speed control on the remote. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the pan control is not perfect. A slight tap on the remote moves it too far. A tiny tap the other way moves it too far back. So it is very hard to pan to the perfect spot. A joy stick would be a great replacement for the remotes (if it was more precise).

Pan/Tilt Don't Work... Unresponsive Support

We bought three of these units and one of them shipped defective. It doesn't pan nor tilt and can hear clicking noises within the motor. We sent it back for repair and it came back with the same issue. Now support is not responding to any of my emails putting us past the warranty period. Purchase at your own risk.

Works as expected. I recommend it!

This unit is solid. I recommend it! It moves a little slow but it gets the job done. I have two and plan on adding more. I used to use gimbals for each video source but they give out after an hour, even with power plugged in. The Gimbals move faster but are incredibly unreliable. Bescor's are incredibly reliable.

Great Way to Add an Additional Camera for Live Production

As a medium-sized church, we can never find enough camera operators. So by using this to control the third camera, along with a LANC extension cord and control, our switcher operator can easily change shots to improve production values. The pan/tilt is smooth and the speed control of the pan/tilt works fairly well, not perfect, but not bad. Everyone is very pleased with the product.

Tilt Did Not Work!

New, out of the box the tilt did not work at all. The motor doesn't even appear or sound to be attempting to tilt the head. This was a waste of money!! I wish I could return/exchange it.

Does what I needed, not good for higher-end production

This won't eliminate the need to have a person behind the camera for higher-end productions, but for cameras that have built-in stabilization it does fine. The motion is a bit jerky but it still let me reposition the camera while manning the production desk. It would be better if it automatically ramped up and down with movements, but the battery life is very good. I basically ran a three-day conference on one set of rechargeable AA's and never had an issue.

Great Camcorder mount for Church

We use this mount for our professional video camera at our church and it works great and is very smooth to operate with remote. Mounts right up to our existing camera mounts and we have even mounted it on RAM mounts before.

Noisy Pan and Tilt Motors

By Hal

I purchased this pan and tilt gimbal for my mirrorless Olympus camera. The unit is beefy, appears to be built well, however the motors can be heard 20 feet away using the remote control cable extension. Does it do the job? Yes, but you might want to turn off your camera's microphone and record a separate voiceover track, that's what I did. With microphones off, works well. I contemplated returning it, but decided for the price, Bescor's reputation, and the build quality, I wasn't going to find something else in a reasonable price range. The product is powered by AC or 4 AA batteries, I plan using this on-location with an AC power supply.

No it can not. You may want to consider something like the Syrp Genie Mini II Panning Motion Control System (BH #SY330001 • MFR #SY0033-0001) If you need it for both panning and tilting consider the Syrp Genie Mini II Pan and Tilt Kit (BH #SY330001PTK (B&H Kit))

Will it track the night sky for astrophotography?

This pan & tilt head allows for a continuous panning motion with end-point selection, however with the maximum horizontal angle being 170 degrees and the vertical maximum being 15 degrees, it is not ideal for night sky tracking.
