Articulator from Antares Audio Technologies is a modern-day version of the talk box. The talk box was a processor that allowed you to extract the formant and amplitude information from a vocal (or other dynamic source) and apply it to any other audio track or to a built-in broadband noise generator.
The processor does not mix the control signal with the original, but rather computes a new signal that contains the extracted information. Functioning as an AAX Native, Audio Units, or VST3 plug-in for macOS- or Windows-based audio software, Articulator is perfect for creating talking guitars, singing synthesizers, and a wide range of special effects.
