Manfrotto Master Stand Reviews

Crapfrotto

Horrible design. Over-complicated, pieces falling off of it while I try to adjust it. Get this thing away from me.

Great and Compact, but Fragile

As far as size is concerned, these rock - small when folded, tall and sturdy when you need it. The air cushioning is a huge plus for heavy loads and with how they work... people just love to use these things and they're a huge wow-factor whenever I unfold them. My only problem is the storing/transporting tech. They were built with a locking/press-to-release mechanism to allow them to be placed on eachother. In theory they work and are AMAZING. But when it comes down to it... they break if you look at them wrong. I stored and LIFTED them to see their capacity when 3 were together. Bad idea. That one button/lock that I broke - that's on me - now I know not to lift them and put the strain on the locks. But then THREE MORE have broken through simple storage and transport - it feels like a glaring design/mechanism/engineering/material flaw. Why does that matter in a light stand? For me, the locking/stacking mechanism was the main reason I went with these. They will still stack, but they will not lock any more and that makes me sad. Submitting them for repair is a huge pain, so ... I will just go without. But I will be looking elsewhere for future stands. Maybe Manfrotto has a 2.0 coming with better parts/mechanism designs!

I rented these to make sure I like them. As a wedding videographer, they're an absolute must. They're sturdy and reliable.

I used these stands for a wedding last weekend and they were awesome. From the ability to stack them in my bag, to the air cushioning, they were awesome to use. 10/10 would recommend!

Owned Less Than 6 Months and Already Need a Repair

Ordered these stands right before Christmas and mainly used just 1 stand for a single OCF setup for the past few months - nothing crazy. Well, a metal piece fell out of the stand and now I have to send it off for a repair. I thought by purchasing Manfrotto, I'd have a sturdy and well-made product that will last a long time vs. buying cheap light stands on Amazon. I have to pay to ship the stand and then We do not have flat rate pricing on repairs. Each item is inspected for the operational problem and the solution. Prices are determined by time and material to restore the unit to good working order. There is no cost for us to do the bench evaluation your only cost is transportation of the unit. The stock status of the parts needed for the repair will determine the turnaround time. If parts are not in stock it will take 6 to 8+ weeks for the parts to arrive from Italy. I do not recommend these stands. I used 1 stand about 20 times, very light usage, 1 OCF set up. Really disappointed.

I love these light stands! Yes, they are pricier than many other brands. However, you get what you pay for. I'm sick of cheap light stands that don't hold up! These are very study, and I love that fact that they fold flat and can stack.

Well Made

This stand is well constructed and should provide years of use. I use it primarily as an elevated microphone stand for orchestral recordings. The leg system is a bit unconventional when folded but works smoothly. This is a tall stand and should be used with sandbag weights on the base for safety.

Incredible stands!

I've used so many stands over the years, from cheap Amazon stands to Impact, and while the Impacts are nice, the fact that these Manfrotto stands link together is a game changer. I hate carrying them individually, so that's why I spent the extra money and got these. They are also compact for 12' and lay flat. Very well made and holds my Aputure 60x without an issue. I do sandbag them for extra safety though.

Generally if carrying a set of 3 of these stands, using a bag is better. One such bag is the Manfrotto LBAG110 Quick Stack Light Stand Bag, (Large), B&H # MALBAG110. https://bhpho.to/2YltfEr

Unfortunately, the Manfrotto 1004BAC is only rated to hold up to 19.8 lbs and the FotodioX Pro FACTOR Prizmo 150 RGB+W Multi Color LED Light weighs 22.3 lbs. A better stand for your needs is the Avenger Combo Steel Stand 35 with Leveling Leg (Chrome-plated, 11.5'), B&H # AVA1035CS. https://bhpho.to/2WP3ryz

question

Does B&H have the adaptor for Manfrotto Alu stands to be used with American threaded microphone clips? I have seen these used many times with microphones or stereo bars attached to them. Would like to be able to use them with microphones and stereo pair for recording orchestras.
Asked by: RB
I know that this response is a year after the original question was posted, but I thought I would Because my use will be strictly audio (raising a stereo bar as well) I was prepared with the appropriate adaptor - the 3/16 photo thread to 5/8 -27 standard microphone stand/clip adaptor supplied with every AKG, Sennheiser, Sony, Nuemann microphone I have ever owned. Needless to say, being an audio pack-rat, I had several in my spare parts tool-box; when my 1004 arrived, I was ready with an adaptor! Stereo bar here we come - works like it was made for microphones!
