Singh-Ray R-26 overview

  • 1Description

Blending a warming effect with the versatility of a polarizer, the 77mm LB Warming Circular Polarizer Filter from Singh-Ray is a unique filter featuring a "Lighter, Brighter" design that affords 0.6 stops more brightness than other circular polarizer filters. At its core, this filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. The warming effect then complements the increase in clarity and saturation by providing an even, warm cast to subjects.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and features a lightweight, durable aluminum alloy filter ring. This ring measures 8.6mm thick and has front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

Reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Arrange and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
"Lighter, Brighter" design enables shorter shutter speeds or smaller apertures to be used compared to other circular polarizer filters.
Warming effect adds a red/yellowish tone to imagery in order to minimize overwhelming cool tones and add a brighter appearance.
Lightweight, durable aluminum alloy filter ring measures 8.6mm-thick.
Constructed from optical glass to provide high image quality and clarity.
Leatherette pouch with microfiber interior for storage and transport

    Singh-Ray R-26 reviews

77mm LB Warming Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality product I was hesitant to buy such an expensive filter, but I also didn't want to waste money on a cheap filter and then still need to get this one later. I took the filter to bryce canyon and got some very nice sunrise shots. The slight warming effect really brought out the reds and helped to take some of the glare out of the sky and the rocks. Most important to me is that these benefits come without the loss of image quality or sharpness as the glass is high quality. I owned a cheap hoya polarizer in the past which degraded image quality significantly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Else Compares With Polarizers you really do get what you pay for. Why buy expensive glass and put a cheap filter on the end? In this case, you can tell the quality of this filter. Smooth transitions from light to dark, and the warming effect is subtle yet noticeable and adds a great warming effect during the golden hours. My only complaint is the price, but willing to pay for this kind of quality-nothing else compares.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful addition I bought this for the EF 24-105. There is some vignetting upto 30mm but I have to check if it is due to the lens hood. This filter is a good addition, makes the images livelier with the stronger saturation and clarity. It mounts well, the rotation is also easy to manage and the Canon lens cap fits quite ok on the outer threads.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It badlly vignettes at wide angles I got this filter prior to my last photo trip. I got this one rather than the thin profile filter because I like the convenience of leaving the filter on my wide angle zoom and adding the lens cap on top to protect it. I already have a thin profile filter that will not allow a lens cap to attach to it. I have used many good brands of polarizers, but this is the only one that vignettes very much at very wide angles. I use the Canon 17-35mm zoom a lot on my 5D, but I also tried it on the 10-22mm zoom using the 7D, and this filter gave me pronounced dark corners on every shot. I really got tired of cloning out the dark corners in Photoshop. I had to get out well over 20mm to avoid vignetting. Is it a really great filter? I am not even sure that it is that much better than the other brands that cost very much less. I would not recommend this filter. The value for the money is not good. Get another brand and save the extra money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best filter, but pricey I've used these for years, and never had a problem. I have several Singh-Ray filters, and use them constantly to eliminate water reflections, glare in architectural work, and occasionally in the studio. The warming filter adds a bit of red to a scene, and is especially suited to landscape work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a guess. To spend this kind of money on a polarizing filter one should feel that this is a long term investment. My three mail lenses are 77mm so, in my own mind, justified the expense. It does all it should. The warming idea is a good one and the maker has a good reputation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have for any serious photographer This must have filter is a great product for landscape, and nature photography. It has a thick ring that allows you to add more filters to it easily. It became the best filter in my arsenal of filters. I will definitely buy it again.
