Optimized for close-up shooting, the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. from Panasonic is a short-telephoto, 90mm equivalent prime for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Designed to strict tolerances in collaboration with Leica, this lens's optical design makes use of aspherical and extra-low dispersion glass elements to reduce aberrations and distortion for notable sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. Multi-coated elements also contribute to a reduction in lens flare and a floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. As a macro lens, a maximum magnification of 1:1 is possible for life-size rendering, along with a minimum focusing distance of 5.9" for working with close-up subjects. An internal focusing mechanism maintains the overall length of the lens during use and MEGA O.I.S. is also featured to reduce the appearance of camera shake when shooting handheld.

Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 Reviews
Excellent Macro Lens
A pleasure to shoot with. Great for macro work - flowers, eyeballs and bugs YES! Also a great portrait lens - you can capture some great shots with excellent bokeh. The lens is Leica branded for a reason. Very sharp.
Great Optics
Evaluating this lens with the Olympus E-M1 Mark II. Excellent lens optics and sharp images. Construction: The lens is extremely light in weight, auto focus is very slow (user guide states that focusing takes time) with the Olympus Pro Lenses the focusing is instantaneous. In manual mode the focusing is OK but not as silky smooth as the Olympus Pro Lenses. The feel of the lens and construction is also not up to par with Olympus Pro Lenses. Purchased this lens because Olympus does not make a Pro Macro Lens. Also, the built in lens O.I.S. and focus stacking are not compatible with the E-M1 Mark II. Not an issue, because the len's O.I.S. can be manually turned off and the camera's image stabilization works flawlessly. I ran tests using a Gitzo tripod, focusing rail, manual focus, with self timer. (Cable Release on backorder). The image quality, and sharpness are outstanding. This lens optically is 1:1, in 35 mm format, on a four thirds cameras it is 2:1 because of 2x magnification. Note: the lens is listed as f2.8, at the closest focus it is f5.6. Mentioning this if you are using an exposure meter, when on camera the metering system compensates and no adjustment is required. Yes I would recommend this lens.
Love it
haven't used it much bought it for the wildflower season here in the desert which starts in Feb--but I did take this shot and from what I see I love it
One of the best lenses I own!
The depth of field and quality of this lens is worth the price. Definitely one of the best lenses I own now!
Lovely Lens
This is not a technical review, but more an everyday use description of a fun lens to own. I've used this lens several times now that the weather is cooler. This lens brings a whole new perspective to my photography in that I'm now looking for the smallest of details. I've discovered a new world with incredible minute details. Super quality lens and the ability to live focus (in manual) with you finger half-pressed on the shutter release. This enables you to pick and choose your object of focus. I could wander on and on, but you get the point - I love this lens and am very please with myself for having purchased.
Great Macro Lens
I have used this lens to take macro infraRed photos on my converted Panasonic GF1. I have also used it to take macro photos with my new Olympus OMD EM1. The images are tack sharp.
Super nice and worth the extra expense
So far I've used this lens only a few times. For close up shots it's great and I've even tried it as a short telephoto for portraits and landscapes. It's quite sharp and the IS feature has come in handy. I don't regret adding this to my bag.
A fine macro lens for micro 4/3
Very good for both macro and scenic photography. Not at its optical best at f/2.8 and diffraction is obvious at f/16+ but otherwise excellent.
