The black Lens Cover for the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR Lens from LensCoat is a 100% closed-cell neoprene coat that protects the lens from bumps and scratches. It is ideal for nature and outdoor photographers, sports shooters and photojournalists. The cover helps break up the shape of your lens, making it less noticeable to wildlife and makes it more comfortable to hold. It also provides a thermal barrier, protecting the hands from cold lenses in lower temperatures. The cover is waterproof, providing protection in inclement weather. This version comes in a matte all-black finish to better blend in where desirable. Or, it can be used just for its protection value.

Please note that the LensCoat for the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR cannot cover the fixed portion of the lens barrel due to the manner in which the lens barrel extends/retracts leaving a small section exposed when the lens is fully extended.

100% water-proof close-cell neoprene lens cover

Lens Cover for the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR Lens (Black) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly Constructed This seems to offer great protection against nicks and scratches, but it is poorly made. The cut is not quite accurate, so there are still areas of the lens not protected - especially on the lens hood (it's not even cut correctly and doesn't match up at all). The description says it has plastic to cover the AF/M and VR switches, but no plastic came with mine. Those switches remain completely exposed to the elements. So I don't really see how it is waterproof and will protect my lens from weather. It does, like I said, seem to protect the body of the lens from scratches, and the camo will break up some of the lens profile, but other than that, it was a waste of money. I have decided to keep it only for the camo and to keep my lens scratch free, but it really wasn't worth $. If you're looking at this for its weatherproofing, don't bother.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What a great product! This product does wonders to protect my investment in my new lens. Now that I know about it, it's mandatory for my longer lenses that are apt to get bumped or scratched during use. The only thing I wish is that there was some kind of inner surface coating that would do a better job of keeping the hood cover in place as it tends to rotate (the lens pieces don't as the lens surfaces are rough). Also, I think the hoodie should go with the lens cover kit and not separate, and come with an attachment cord so I'm not juggling lens caps, hoodie, etc. Last, it's a little tough to get the hood locked in in reverse position for stowage when the cover is on the lens, one just has to get used to it and also move the cover down a tad. Otherwise, totally maintains your lens' resale value and protects your lens correct operation both mechanically and from rugged climate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Scratch and Bump Protection I use the cover on my Nikkor 70-300 zoom to make the lens stand out less. It does a good job of breaking up the outline of the lens and makes it look smaller. Fit is snug and access to lens controls is good. It will help prevent scratches and cushions the lens slightly, maybe enough to make the difference between damage or not in a short drop to the ground. Zoom and focus controls are still easy to use. Cons are that it is expensive for what it is (but there are no other lens covers like this) and it in no way shape or form does it waterproof your lens. All seams or gaps in the lens are uncovered by the lens cover. At full extension almost 2 of the barrel are exposed, but the lens still looks a lot smaller than it does without the cover. With the cover on the lens hood (with the hood reversed) it makes it a tight squeeze to get the lens into the lens case. At full extension people don't gawk at the lens the way they sometimes do without the cover. In a way it makes the lens and camera look cheaper which is something I really like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great protection for an expensive lens I was concerened about a lens this large getting beat up walking around so I purchased this. I'm glad that I did. I dropped my Nikon D90 on asphalt. My foot broke the cameras fall and the LensCoat saved the lens! It has already paid for itself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yep its camo It adds a small layer of padding to the outside of your lens. The fit was O.K. ,but I had to play with it a bit to get the petals on the lens hood to work. I had to stretch and smush it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice protector but did not fit properly I liked the fit and material this cover was made with. However, the portion of the coat that covers the meters and A/M sliders was cut incorrectly so they did not line up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for shooting in a snow storm I hate to expose my lens to the elements so this cover has been a great addition to my equipment. ...
