The handle on the Lumi tilt is ratcheted and therefore the issue with the handle hitting the reflector is easily solved by pulling the handle out and repositioning it. It is a standard Mola handle feature. The Mola Lumi V2 will allow for the height of the TTL5 which will release in March 2012.

Study design, but w/ mounting issues

Agree with the comments from previous reviewers. Given that many users of this product will be using FlexTT5, this product does not allow direct mounting of flash light to TT5 on the cold shoe provided. I use this bracket on a MOLA Euro dish w/ SB900. One needs to get a SB28 iTTL cable and replace one of the cold shoe with one end of the SB28 flash socket to get this setup to work. In addition, if this tilt bracket is mounted on a normal vertical light stand, the ability the tilt downwards is severely limited as the dish collides with the bottom of the mounting bracket. The way around it is to mount this Lumi Tilt Bracket on a boom stand. I use this on a Manfrotto 025TM super boom stand, which allows control of tilt and rotational angles via control handles. Provided that the buyer is aware of these limitations and can work around these issues, this is a quality product. Alternatively, there is a more flexible product from Kacey Enterprise. But price is not cheap and will cost you around USD$220.

Design could be better

The Lumi tilt bracket is very solidly built and manufactured to work with Speedlite's, however, its design was not very well thought out. The locking handle for the swivel mount is too long and hits both the beauty dish and the extra flash mount extension used to hold the radio slave in place. This makes it impossible to tighten the mount fully and therefore the beauty dish will not maintain its position. The only way to resolve this is to cut a portion of the handle off in order to provide the necessary clearance. This extra flash mount is designed for the older pocket wizards and requires an additional cable to attach to your flash. If you have the TTL5 Pocket Wizard there is not enough clearance to mount it directly to the flash as the speedlite will no longer fit through the hole due to the combined extended height of both units. The only work around I have found is to mount the flash directly to a TTL off camera flash cord and then mount the provided locking screw upside down and directly to the flash cord in order to maintain clearance. This allows the flash to rest inside the beauty dish as originally designed although just barely. You can then attach the TTL5 unit to the extra shoe mount provided. For the price paid, this product does not meet expectations.

question

Can anyone explain the difference b/w Mola Lumi One and Lumi Two brackets and why I might select one over the other? Thanks
Asked by: frank g.
The choice between each bracket depends on your flash and radio receiver that youre going to use. The Lumi One Bracket is for use with Pocket Wizard units like the Plus II & III as well as the RadioPopper RX. It would work with flashes such as the Canon 580EX or the Nikon SB800/SB900 which are smaller. While the Lumi Two can use the same flashes, it has a better fit when using a Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 Transceiver.
