Wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame format Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C-format cameras where it will provide a 44.8mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Distagon optical design affords high sharpness, well-corrected image quality from edge-to-edge, and very low field curvature.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 9.4" to infinity.
Manual focus design is benefitted by engraved focus distance and depth of field scales.
All-metal lens barrel and mount offers high durability and rigidity.

question

So is this optically the same as the famous Contax Zeiss 28mm f/2 Hollywood ? If not, does anybody know how it compares?
Asked by: Tony Y.
While there are no tests we're aware of comparing this lens to a Contax Zeiss 28mm f/2 Hollywood , this is a very sharp lens with great low light capability and a very shallow depth of field.

question

Is there a way to remove or reduce chromatic abberation?
Asked by: Adrian
Depending on the lens design, the type of glass materials used and aperture setting; some amount of CA can be evident. This can be corrected by applying a profile correction in software tools, such as the defringe feature in Adobe Lightroom.

question

Does this work with any EF Mount? Not sure what the ZE means
Asked by: Adrian
Hi Adrian, yeah I have an URSA Mini 4.6K that has an EF lens mount on it and it works just fine like all my other canon glass with my camer.

question

Is this Ziess 28mm focal length good for portraits?
Asked by: Anonymous
I think this is a great lens for portraits. Remember that the digital cameras are different in their angle of view compared to the old cameras - so this is the equivalent of a 55mm lens when we used to shoot on film.

question

Anyone have experience using this lens (or any Distagons) in comparison to Rokinons? And/or on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera? I'm debating this lens (28) or both Rokinon 24 and 35.
Asked by: Adam M.
In terms of color and tonal rendition, the Rokinons are no match to Zeiss ZE lenses.

Asked by: Adam M.
The aperture controlled electronically through the camera body.
