Key Features
- EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
- Aperture Range: f/2 to f/22
- ZEISS T* Anti-Reflective Coating
- Floating Elements System
Offering a traditional wide-angle field of view with bright performance, the Canon EF-mount Distagon T* 28mm f/2 ZE from ZEISS is well-suited for a range of subjects, from landscapes to street shooting. The lens uses a Distagon optical concept, which helps to reduce field curvature and distortion for high overall sharpness and accurate rendering across the frame. A T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to individual elements, too, to control lens flare and ghosting. Also contributing to high sharpness and clarity, a floating elements system is used to achieve consistent, well-controlled image quality throughout the focusing range.

question
So is this optically the same as the famous Contax Zeiss 28mm f/2 Hollywood ? If not, does anybody know how it compares?
While there are no tests we're aware of comparing this lens to a Contax Zeiss 28mm f/2 Hollywood , this is a very sharp lens with great low light capability and a very shallow depth of field.

question
Is there a way to remove or reduce chromatic abberation?
Depending on the lens design, the type of glass materials used and aperture setting; some amount of CA can be evident. This can be corrected by applying a profile correction in software tools, such as the defringe feature in Adobe Lightroom.

question
Is this Ziess 28mm focal length good for portraits?
I think this is a great lens for portraits. Remember that the digital cameras are different in their angle of view compared to the old cameras - so this is the equivalent of a 55mm lens when we used to shoot on film.

question
Anyone have experience using this lens (or any Distagons) in comparison to Rokinons? And/or on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera? I'm debating this lens (28) or both Rokinon 24 and 35.
In terms of color and tonal rendition, the Rokinons are no match to Zeiss ZE lenses.

question
Is there a manual aperture ring? Or is it controlled electronically?
