  • 1Description

This kit is presented by B&H as the ideal solution for the outdoor enthusiast buying a new Nikon Telephoto AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens. In addition to the lens, this kit includes 2 dedicated LensCoat Lens Covers in the Digital Camo camouflage pattern. This pattern, constructed from small rectangular pixels of color, mimics naturally occurring dappled textures and rough boundaries. It covers the lens with a 100% closed-cell neoprene coat, also offering protection from bumps, jars and nicks. One of the covers is designed to fully protect the lens when not in use. It simply slides over the lens, and closes with a secure touch-tab fastener. This cover is designed for use with the lens hood in the reverse position. The other cover is used to protect the lens when in use. Also included is the Hoodie (in same color), which is a neoprene hood cover that fits easily and snugly around your lens hood in either the shooting position or reversed.

The super-quiet Nikon 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II telephoto lens features Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology that combines fast and precise autofocusing operation with super-quiet operation. The Vibration Reduction (VR II) technology helps compensate for camera shake to help ensure sharper pictures in low light and at shutter speeds up to four stops slower.

  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens

The AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens from Nikon delivers superior professional performance with rugged construction and sharp imaging. A telephoto prime lens compatible with both FX and DX format DSLRs, this fast aperture lens is perfect for sports photojournalism, wild life photography, portraiture, and a wide range of subjects that require super telephoto focal lengths. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective for low light shooting and shallow depth of field control. On FX format sensors, it provides a 450mm focal length equivalency.

Nikon's VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization allows handheld shooting at up to 3 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, and Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) provides users with fast and quiet autofocusing. A/M mode joins the familiar M/A and M modes, enhancing AF control versatility with fast, secure switching between auto and manual focus and AF Memory Recall allows instant return to a predetermined point of focus. The minimum focus distance is 7.2' in manual mode and 7.5' in AF mode.

Three extra-low dispersion (ED) lens elements offer superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration, even at wide apertures and both Nano Crystal Coating and Super Integrated Coating on the lens elements enhance light transmission and minimize flare and ghosting.

Physically, this lens is up to the challenge of professional use with dust and moisture resistance, a magnesium die-cast barrel, and a protective meniscus front lens. A removable tripod collar and a 52mm slip-in filter system are supported.

    Nikon 300mm reviews

AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Aquisition Yet I have built up my equipment over the past 5 years with D3/D3 X and a selection of top end Nikon fast lenses. The 300mm F2.8 VRii was the final piece of the jigsaw and it was worth the wait. fast, accurate, sharp and outstanding build quality. I have shot sport, wildlife and portraiture with it and it as excelled all round. I have used it with the Nikon 2.0 III teleconverter with no noticeable loss of sharpness and only minimal oss of speed. The only negative I have is the weight but regardless I wouldn't leave home without it. Nikon should consider putting a front element protection in place (similar to the 200 -400 ) other than that i dont believe this lens can be beaten.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of Nikon's Best Bought this lens mainly for sports, but also plan on getting into wildlife as well. Shot a baseball game this last weekend and the pictures are sharp and with great color. Focus is very fast and accurate. Used the Nikon 1.7 tele and found the pictures just as sharp. Before buying this lens, I'd been using the 70-200, sometimes with the 1.7 tele, which is a great combo. I will continue to use this set-up when conditions warrant (distance). I use both the Nikon D300 and D700 cameras. Both work great, with the D300 adding more reach, and the D700 for more useable ISO in lower light. This 300mm lens is a great tool to have no matter what kind of shooting you do. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Wait I am a wildlife photographer concentrating mainly on bird life. I have been looking at this lens for over a year and I finally made the leap and I am very happy. The lens produces crisp, clean, clear and just stunning photos. I coupled this lens with the Nikon TC17 EII teleconverter and the lens still performs great. Although you can use all the Nikon teleconverters with this lens I stick with the TC17 EII. The TC20 EIII works well but it is slow to focus in low light conditions. Also, even though you can hand hold this lens with a converter I suggest a tripod especially with the TC20 EIII. Try it out and compare the shots. You will be amazed how much more clean and crisp your shots are when using a tripod,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I got what I payed for I have been using this lens for about three weeks. I purchased it with the intent of using it for multiple focal lengths, with Nikon 1.4 and 2.0 tele-converters. The quality with the 2.0 converter on my D500 is excellent. I've been shooting it wide open at f5.6 most of the time due to the dark conditions recently here in the Pacific Northwest. The attached photo is an example of the results at 900mm effective focal length with the lens wide open. It focused on the approaching goose and I got four good consecutive frames of photos. The quality of the lens without a converter is unquestionably outstanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and Sharp., As a professional specializing in sporting dog and watefowl photography the 300 is my go to lens for over half of what I shoot. This lens is incredibly sharp, focuses extremely fast, tracks well and has amazing bokeh. The VR II system is a definite improvement over the original. I can consistently get tack sharp images at 1/50 second shutter speed- handheld. Some say its heavy, but it balances very well on a D3/D3s body. Using the 1.4, 1.7,and 2X TCs affords virtually no loss of sharpness although focus aquisition is noticeably reduced with the 1.7 and 2X. If you love sharp, buy this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wildlife photographers dream! I primarily photo wildlife and this lens is a dream come true! Fast and accurate auto focus and laser sharp photos even in poor lighting. I don't use a tripod, just brace on what ever is available (usually knee) and the photos are still crisp as can be. Teamed up with the TC-20E III gives me range I never had before and even though auto focus is not as quick I can still get razor clear shots with no tripod in good light and in poor light if propped against a tree or post. Photos are so clear I could zoom in with zero loss in quality if desired. Best photos of a beaver, coyote and deer running, and prairie dog jump yip in one weeks time of owing this lens. Incredible! Save up and buy this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best After struggling to get good zoo photos with the Nikon 300mm f/4 and the Canon 400mm f/5.6L, I finally caved and bought this lens. The quality of both the output and the construction are astonishing. My sample is as sharp wide open as my f/4 was stopped all the way down to f/9, and produces first-rate results from f/2.8 all the way to f/9. Now instead of getting recognizable backgrounds I'm seeing bokeh that can only be described as dream-like; with subjects appearing to float on air against a back-drop of swirling color. The focusing speed is so fast that it is easy to keep to the lowest ISO settings in all but dim light. And the soft-sided carrying case enables transport with a camera attached. What a relief! I would give this lens ten stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have bought this years ago. This lens is a huge upgrade from my older AF 300 f/4.0. The AF-S focusing is much faster, and the ability to instantly overide to manual is very nice. The extra stop really comes in handy when using a teleconverter (I got the 1.7x to go with this lens, it works great). Granted, it is a bit heavier to carry around, but after a few long days at the San Diego Zoo, I'm getting used to it. I'm not going to check heavy as a con, since this much weight just goes with the size.
