Vixen Optics R130Sf overview

  • 1Description

The R130SF from Vixen is a 5.0" Newtonian reflector telescope with a focal length of 650mm. Delivering excellent light throughput and resolution via its f/5.0 aperture, the R130SF provides clear views of deep sky objects, nebula, clusters and galaxies.

This fine optical instrument comes configured with mounting rings, a dovetail plate, and a 6x30 finder with a bracket and shoe. Two 1.25" eyepieces are also included - 1 PL 6mm, and a PL 20mm.

The mounting platform is the Porta II mount - a solid altazimuth mount with a 20 lb capacity and sturdy adjustable legs. Its versatile and rugged construction provides smooth and accurate tracking of celestial and terrestrial objects. Vixen's geared drive system has no locks or clutches, and the flexible slow motion handles minimize vibrations for sharp clear viewing. The tripod is easily adjusted from 35.4-51.2" and the standard mounting bolt ensures the ability to move the mount to a taller or heavier tripod if necessary.

    Vixen Optics R130Sf reviews

R130Sf Telescope with Porta II Mount is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine quality I am just getting started in astronomy, and this is my first telescope. It was a priority that the kit be lightweight and portable, as well as high quality. This kit fills the bill. Much easier to take outside for a few minutes than a dob. Both the OTA and the Porta II mount are excellent quality. The new Porta II mount is already legend among amateur astronomers, as it is VERY stable/well made. The EPs included by Vixen are *not* NPL plossls as the website suggests- instead they are a no name plossl set and are not as high a quality as the NPLs. (I have since acquired an NPL- which is great.) The included EPs are adequate but not great. The kit was very well packed by Vixen and was easy to set up. While instructions were included, I didn't need them, and I'm a beginner. The scope is intuitive to use. I haven't used it as much as I would like yet, due to cloudy skies, but with what little I've seen it seems the scope arrived well collimated. I would buy this kit again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent first astronomy scope Excellent package--got as first scope for beginning astronomer. Wanted a large aperture scope at a reasonable price. Optics superb for the price of this combination mount/optical tube assembly. Altazmith mount is superb, with fine adjustments for tracking. The total combination is easily portable.
