    VuPoint Solutions PDSST410AVP Reviews

PDS-ST410-VP Magic Wand Portable Handheld Scanner is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Niche Solution This is a good product for situations when a hand-held scanner is needed without having to be tethered to a computer. In an office, there are more practical solutions, but in a library for example, this would be great. The quality of the scan is very good, and you can insert any size of microSD card you want to hold an increasing number of images. Note that you have to purchase the microSD card you can't use this device until you get one. The tricky part of using this device is dragging it steadily across the item you are scanning so as not to distort the image. The included OCR software is worthless, which was a disappointment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scanner in My Pocket Able to scan documents at client sites. Discrete size and carrying sleeve. Convenient and adds credibility for me being technically astute. More diplomatic than asking to use client's copier. Others have seen in airline magazines, but never in actual, practical use. Reviewed YouTube videos before ordering. Selected B&H since they have been ethical and fast over the years. ... Immediately put unit to use. Used it yesterday at a Senior's home to scan documents. Co-workers may purchase wand for their own use. Takes a little practice, but not as much as expected to get good color and monochrome scans. Plan to use to scan family photo albums on next trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy portable scanner This thing works just as advertised. It's handy, convenient, and easy to use. It's small size makes it easy to carry around. I use it with a Mac, but since it mounts as an external drive, it doesn't matter what system you use. The OCR software that comes with the scanner is Windows only, though, once again leaving Mac users out. It would have been nice to package a Micro SD chip with the scanner--the 2 GB one I use is plenty big enough and relatively cheap (maybe instead of the useless software?) You can't use the scanner without the memory chip. Bottom line: a useful, handy piece of hardware that you can easily carry around with you to produce nice, simple scans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and innovative design It is awesome product!! I just finished scanning a journal book from the library, which I could have spend lot of time and money copying it from library. I think the money invested is very well worth over a long run, because you save way more than the price of this REALLY MAGIC WAND! the only downside to it you have to be move the wand at a constant speed to get a uniform picture. or not you still have the picture but the words will show the wavy pattern (which is very much readable, don't misunderstand me!)Plus it is very cool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds Expectations I take tons of notes by hand and often need to refer back to the notes months later. I always say I'm going to transcribe them to the computer, but of course that never happens. So I decided to try scanning my notes using a flatbed scanner. It was a hassle. So I decided to try this. Now all I do is lay all my notes on a table once a week and scan them with the VuPoint Portable scanner. I pop out the micro SD card, stick it into my computer's card reader and the files are there just like digital pics from a camera. You can also use the USB cable and it shows up like a digital camera or external hard drive. The quality is great (even at the low resolution setting) and I just drag the notes into my Office OneNote application and I have them forever. I was worried that scanning would be difficult, but after a couple of tries I learned the proper speed and as long as you leave yourself a big enough flat spot to do the scanning you can pretty much scan perfect every time. I'd estimate that I did about a dozen handwritten notes of varying sizes yesterday in less than 5 minutes. Another 3 minutes to put them on my computer and voila, done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as advertised My wife and I are theatre archivists and find this intrument most useful in collecting images from newspapers, magazines and programmes. It is easy to use and gives more than adequate images. With my Mac, I just plug the Wand into the USB port, and iPhoto opens to download the scans. Very easy. Did not need anysoftware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tricky, but works The wand works as advertised but can be tricky to use. Figuring out how to hold a picture and get the wand across it can be problematic but if you don't get in too much of a hurry this can be done. If an old picture is curled up on the ends it can cause distortion. This product is great for scanning pictures in a scrapbook. All in all, I really like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and function Works well and is well made. Good for text capture or rough graphic capture but the focus is not likely fine enough for images that need to look good. The big deal is portability and ease of use.
