The 77mm T1 Infrared Filter from Tiffen is a high-tech filter targeted towards eliminating infrared contamination at 680nm. This filter will assist you in maintaining your color spectrum when shooting against a dark fabric. You will notice the blacks turn out true with no color cast from the red end of the spectrum.

This filter has been created to help capture a much broader spectrum of color than previous infrared filters - particularly with digital camcorders.  Color shift is a critical factor in digital photography especially when dealing with the infrared spectrum - and even more important when shooting with HD technology.
Unlike traditional film cameras, CCD or CMOS sensors of a digital camera are, by nature, susceptible to infrared contamination. Manufacturers try to avoid this problem by incorporating an infrared absorbing filter on top of the image sensor. Because these filters do not have a sharp cutoff at the infrared wavelengths there has to be a compromise in order not to exclude visible red wavelengths. Despite these precautions, some infrared wavelengths pass through resulting in contamination of the image.

Tiffen's Water White glass, using their ColorCore Technology, is characterized by a high transmission quality. Typically, it will transmit 98-99% of the light. It also features an anti-glare and anti-reflective quality that makes it useful in a wide range of uses including the movie theater industry, store and art displays. The glass is virtually defect-free and is becoming more and more prevalent in digital equipment.

Helps eliminate the red contamination on dark products and fabrics
Good for digital photography
Can be used at all times with most digital cameras
Tiffen's ColorCore technology is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never take this filter off your XDCam This is a one-of-a-kind filter that stops the Infra red leak on XDCam cameras like the EX-1 and EX-3. It WORKS! We shoot a lot of theatrical stage lit features, and before we added the T1 filter, the IR leaks turned black costumes into a deep maroon, magenta color. Not anymore. Blacks are black with this filter on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just in time! I started to get reddish brown hues on objects that should be black with my Sony EX3. After that shoot I ordered the T1 Infrared Filter by Tiffen and black objects now appear as they should. The 77 mm threaded filter is slim enough to allow the sunshade assembly to re-attach after putting the filter in place. That's the good! The bad, well you lose some light transmission. But at least your color is correct!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product every videographer must have I bought T1 Infrared Filter for my Sony Ex1r camcorder. I use it with some custom picture profiles to improve skin tone details and eliminate blueish tone of EX1R. Filter works as described. Good quality product. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars because of a soft storage case. It will be much better to have a rigid plastic case to store the filter when not in use. Otherwise is a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small price solves BIG problem Used on our PMW-EX1 to eliminate black fabrics from turnning a muddy red

Rated 5 out of 5 by from essential filter for better dslr images I have a Sony a99 and noticed muddy magenta in blacks,so, I started to investigate this problem. After several goggles, I noticed that a DP used a rosco 4X4 IR cut filter to address this problem. The Tiffen IR cut filter was the right size for my Sony Alfa Lenses. It WORKS!!! Black are blacks and images are sharper! I've gone from disappointment to relief.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very strong green color cast For video this filter creates problems when trying to accurately white balance. For raw photos it's easy to correct the green cast. You can correct the green cast in video as well, but it makes dialing in white balance impossible. I use the HOYA IR CUT now, which is perfectly crystal clear and not much more expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from To remove unwanted Infrared Brown Blacks Perfect to use with HD CMOS video cameras like EX1, EX3... Sometime you have unwanted reddish blacks because of infrared contamination in the picture. That's not a camera default : that let you the maximum red light width entering in the CMOS, but that can create unwanted effects, specially in blacks. Using this T1 filter will remove this bad effect and produce (after good white balancing, preset or mesured) a perfect picture. And not too much flare effects with incident light. A must have for your gear...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps Your Blacks, True Black! Like many Sony EX-1 owners, I waited two years for a filter that could correct that camera's tendency to cause the red color spectrum bleed. When this occurred under certain lighting conditions, certain shades of black would appear, brown, burgundy or various other color tones. This filter corrects that problem 100%. It keeps all of the black colors within the scene the proper shade of black. I would say, this is a must have filter for all Sony EX1 owners.
