Leica 18707 Overview

This Leica X1 Brightline Finder is a viewfinder for the 36mm equivalent lens of the Leica X1 compact digital camera. The camera does not have a built in viewfinder so this is the perfect accessory for using your camera in bright sunlight. This is a passive finder, so no camera data is viewed if the LCD screen is turned off.

The finder provides a remarkably vibrant, high-contrast image. Due to a concave mirror in the optics, part of the incoming light is used to illuminate the picture outline as a bright frame. This is the same as in viewfinders of Leica M cameras.

The optics are given a high-quality multi-layer coating to guarantee optimum viewing through the finder in all conditions. The high-quality metal body of the finder is designed in the popular retro look of the fifties and sixties, but is milled from solid brass according to the latest technologies. The eyepiece side is rubberized to protect eyeglasses.

question

Can this be used with the Leica X-U?
Asked by: Jerome
It will fit but it is not made for it and is off in terms of focal length by about 2mm.The flash will get in the way a bit as well. And unlike that camera model it is not weather sealed. So it is not recommended using that with the Leica X-U

question

Am I correct it will also work with CCD monochrome with a 35mm lens ?
Asked by: Collins C.
While there are viewfinder accessories for the Monochrom such as the Leica Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder for M System B&H # LEUWAVFM, we see nothing suggesting the use of this viewfinder that is for another camera altogether. So that we may best assist you, please email us at [email protected]

question

Why is this so much cheaper than the equivalent viewfinders for M wide angle lenses?
Asked by: Paul
This is only made for the Leica X1 which is no longer sold new and was APS-C. Also, this is an equivalent of 36mm in full frame, which is not as wide as many of the other external viewfinders for M mount.

question

What if I use this viewfinder on a M9, does it work?
Asked by: Xiuming L.
Yes, it will work with a 35mm lens. Keep in mind however, that there is no parallax correction at close distances, save for a dotted line to indicate close distance, so you will be best served by the camera's viewfinder at closer distances. However, because this viewfinder is mounted approximately above the lens, it will be useful in aligning something in the absolute center of the frame. Not an essential accessory on the M9, but useful in certain specific scenarios.

question

Can I use this optical view finder with the latest Leica x type 113?
Asked by: Lawrence
I never tried but think is highly likely it will work well together, flash shoes are standard fit and lens focal angle is appropriate.

question

Can you adjust the diopter magnification on this unit? If not can you purchase a separate compensation lens to attach to the unit?
Asked by: Anonymous
I called our store and asked a floor manager to check for me. The Leica X1 brightline viewfinder does not have an adjustable built-in diopter nor does Leica offer them as accessories.
