Kirk BL-7D overview

  • 1Description

This Kirk L-Bracket for Canon EOS 7D is a right-angle, quick-release bracket that fits on the base of the EOS 7D, allowing you to quickly move from vertical to horizontal format without moving your tripod head or changing your position. The L-bracket allows access to the camera's I/O ports and battery pack. It works especially well with wide-angle, tilt-shift, or macro lenses. This bracket must be used with an (optional) Arca-style quick-release platform such as a ball head or quick-release clamp.

Custom made one-piece bracket machined from light weight 6061T6 Aluminum
Allows full access to rubber side hatches
Allows full use of the remote switch even in the vertical format

    Kirk BL-7D reviews

    L-Bracket is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, light, well made and inexpensive The combination of the Kirk Enterprises L bracket with their quick release clamp was recommended to me by a professional as a relatively inexpensive and lightweight means of taking panoramic shots. He keeps it on his camera all the time. It allows rapid change between landscape and portrait orientation. It is used with a ball and socket head which freezes tilt and yaw but allows controlled rotation. The L-bracket and release clamp are lightweight and well made. I also keep the bracket on my camera and setup on the tripod is rapid. It is not as sophisticated as devices which facilitate rotation around the nodal point, but much lighter and less expensive. Great for trekking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fastest switch to vertical While pricey, the Kirk L Bracket really fits the bill for a fast change from landscape to portrait if you use a ball head on your tripod. The Arca compatible plate slides in and out and you're set for shooting. Machined out of a single piece of aluminum, this is a solid piece of metal that doesn't hinder the hand-holding character of the camera body. Works like a charm!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Five cameras w Kirk L-Brackets, perfect I put a Kirk L-Bracket on my 20D, 40D, 5DII, 5DIII, and now on a 7D. I have a Kirk bullhead on my tripod, and w/o these brackets I'm sunk. I like the quick transition from landscape to portrait. I like the access they provide to the side connectors. They're tough too. I've never had an issue with these. When the 7D (used) recently arrived I thought I could get by for a few days with the 40D L-bracket, but no such luck. Canon alters the bodies just enough to make one camera's L-bracket useless on another body. The price, spread over years of use, is negligible..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its an L bracket! This allows me to do landscape or portrait on my non-headed arca swiss style monopod or my wimberley. It does what its meant to do all be it somewhat expensively

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality and convenience In the studio and in the field I often switch between landscape and portrait mode. This L-bracket lets me do so with ease, fitting on both my tripods and my monopod (All have Arca-compatible brackets from various manufacturers. And it lets me use my cable release in both modes too. It is very solid and beautifully machined. Although grossly expensive, it is clear why when you see and use it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hmmmm... There isnt a prob with the L Bracket as such. Except to say that where it fits onto my tripod ballhead it isnt machined finely enough to allow the ballhead clamp to secure it. The two products are not compatible. I was told this item would fit on my Cullmann QR plate, but it doesnt, not snuggly enough to close the head clamp. Very disappointing. Other than that, the L Bracket itself is fine. Kirk need to make the attachment part finer, so it can fit in the QR Plate better. A supplied rubber washer would be good too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fits 7D nicely light weight and easily clamps in and out of my induro panheld and acratech ballhead. Bummed that you cannot use the black rapid adapters without having to remove the black rapid D-ring before placing it on your tripod!! Bracket makes changing horizontal and vertical views a snap. 4 stars for the cost and inability to use with black rapid without removind D clamp when changing from handheld shot to tripod, delaying your photo 30-40 seconds which can make or break your opportunity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finely made Not the first product I've owned by Kirk, and as with the others, it is very well made. Finely machined, a perfect fit, and very tough.
