    Vanguard 264AP reviews

    Alta+ 264AP Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit with PH-32 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent compromise for videos and stills It's a decent compromise for video and stills using light/medium weight camera/camcorder Compact and lightweight aluminum for travel Spiked rubber feet for increased stability Integrated anti-shock ring for increased protection 4-sections leg, easy to setup Fluid head for decent video capture and panorama 3-way panning with 3 bubble levels Really good small base plate, with also a good locking system The carry-on bag does not fit the tripod with the head and the handles (you have to remove the handles) The Center column does not have creative angles as Alta Pro 263AT

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great legs This is a very nice tripod and head for photography. The head is passable for still video but it's just not fluid enough for smooth motion. Don't buy this just to cheap-out thinking it will suffice as a fluid video head. The legs themselves do work extreamly well with the Manfrotto 502ah fluid video head. And the Alta head is relagated to a much lesser tripod for photography. Again, this is a very good value for a photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid Value Tripod Using it with my Lumix GH1, it provides stability and a solid level of construction. I prefer a head with both tilt and pan controls so I can use it for video recording, and this is very good for that. The feel of the handles are quite good, with a softened rubber surface that fits my hand well. Legs extend high enough for my needs, spread out to almost flat, and lock securely. A slight amount of stubbornness from the legs on extension, but I'd rather they be a little sticky than too loose and fall apart. Lastly, I would have purchased a tripod that was beyond my needs (and heavier) if it weren't for B&H sales staffer Nehemiah. He spent about 30 minutes with me in the store making various recommendations before I settled on this one. It wasn't at all about selling me the most expensive tripod, it was about finding me the right one--and giving me no hassle for leaving to place my order from home. A top notch guy and experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stands on its own three legs I use this tripod everywhere: the house, the baseball field, the swamp, the boat, the mud, the sand and the dirt. It hasn't let me down so far. A friend just spent 3 times the amount on a tripod that doesn't hold up in situations this one easily handles. The only thing I don't like is that it is hard to get the camera attached tight enough. It loosens very easily and it is hard to get your fingers in the small space to tighten it sufficiently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceded Expectations Speaking as a designer... this is good work. I finding the two heads very useful, the main head has great handles, is fast and easy to use, I like the smooth panning or locking option button, the large quick-release plate is secure and simple, watch your fingers when putting it back on though the handle snaps back hard. The little alternate head at the bottom of the center column works well when you want to get low to the ground with the legs open to 80 degrees, just separate from column, remove hook and use to replace main head. I found out quick why they put padding in the column when I turned the handle and my camera slid down fast, (No harm) good design. and finale (for what its worth) Its nice looking equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great starter tripod I bought it to use with a Canon Vixia HF10 and JAG35 DOF adapter. The tripod doesn't look or feel cheap. It is very sturdy and the two levels are handy. It even comes with its own carrying case. The only drawback are the long adjusting knobs which have to be removed before transporting in the case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid peice with great video capability This tripod features solid construction, with all main components made of aluminium. The tripod stands at an impressive height, and packs up reasonably small. The included carry bag is a nice bonus, and is of good quality, with a carry strap that is long enough to be worn diagonally across your back. I should mention that it is slightly difficult to get the tripod into and out if the bag, and you need to remove one of the control handles to fit it in. A little plastic bit comes to screw the handles into when they are removed, and clips onto the tripod body. The video head moves very smoothly, and there is a lock feature on the head to either lock the entire head (for photo) or to leave the horizontal axis unlocked, to allow for panning during video. The panning is not as smooth at the vertical movement, presumable because you're moving the weight of the entire head. The quick release plate is also made of aluminium, and locks in firmly, and features a two-button locking mechanism. The head can also be uses for portrait photography, by rotating the vertical axis to the extreme left. The legs extend to approximately 85 degrees, but it can sometimes be difficult to push in the release button on them to allow them to release. The double sided centre column features the video head on one side, and hook on the other for hanging a counterweight to further stabilize the tripod. The column can be reversed, and the hook unscrewed, to allow for extremely low macro photography.I have so far used the tripod for some video interviews, and they came out nicely, but panning the head was sometime difficult to get it moving, and I would have to exert some pressure to rotate it. As stated above, the vertical movement is very smooth, and the three spirit levels are helpful in straightening your camera. The rubber feet can be screwed in to reveal spikes, which would be usefull in a handful of applications, but i havn't gotten around to using them yet...All in all, a solid piece, and well worth the $$ payed for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pro quality tripod The material, assembly and design are pro quality. I have used tripods costing twice what I paid for this model and the Vanguard meets or beats them.
