The Formatt 77mm Graduated Sunset 2 Filter is one of the most widely used category of filters. It enhances reality, adding a touch of subtlety or drama to the image.

Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes.

Sometimes it is also desirable to add color to part of the photograph. For example, to add blue to only the sky. Formatt Color Graduated filters are half-color, half-clear, with a graduated transition for blending into the scene. They are available in an array of colors. Soft/hard indicates the degree of transition.

Note: Formatt Graduated Sunset Filters comes in strengths from 1-3 with 3 having the greatest effect

Some of the Most Popular Applications Include

Adding color excitement to a drab sky
Changing the specific color in a scene to create a desired special effect
Enhancing the existing color or creating subtle color drama
Creating more balanced exposure in uneven lighting conditions

Formatt Grads are Available in Four Types

Soft Edge - Half clear, half colored with a smooth transition to full density. Generally used with medium to wide angle lenses
Hard Edge - Half clear, half colored with a definite less subtle transition. For use with long focal length lenses
Razor Edge - As hard edge but with a solid transition line for shooting corners of buildings, knife-edge horizons or when a very bold transition is required
Blender - The grad line is right at one edge of the filter so the color change runs from top to bottom. Perfect for irregular objects and skylines

77mm Graduated Sunset 2 Filter is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from ARRIVED WITH A FLAW I ordered the 77mm Graduated Sunset 2 Filter by Formatt Hitech to use on all my Nikon lenses and had to wait several weeks for it to be drop-shipped via Royal Mail from the manufacturer in Aberdare, Scotland. When I opened the package I noticed that the filter had a magenta smear and a small scratch imbedded in the glass itself. It wasn't on the surface of the filter, but inside it.Of course, B&H being the great company they are, issued an MRA immediately and ordered a replacement from Formatt Hitech in Scotland.Unfortunately, I'll have to wait several weeks (again) for the replacement filter to arrive. The first filter they sent looked really nice in every other way. I imagine when I receive the new one it will work as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORTH THE LONG WAIT I ordered this 77mm Graduated Sunset 2 Filter (SOFT EDGE) by Formatt Hitech a couple of months ago. It was not in stock and had to come from the manufacturer in Scotland. It arrived with a flaw in the glass. B&H immediately authorized a return (What else would you expect from B&H? They're the BEST!) and they ordered a replacement right away. The replacement arrived a couple of weeks later in perfect condition. The filter works great for improving unexciting sunsets. I also have the same filter in a HARD EDGE for longer lenses. Be aware when ordering any filter from Formatt Hitech that's not in-stock at B&H that it may take many weeks or even several months to get it. I've been waiting over six weeks now for the 77mm Graduated Skyfire 3 Filter by Formatt Hitech. If you want these exotic filters from Formatt Hitech or even LEE filters, just remember that both companies are in Great Britain and it could be a long wait!
