Nikon AF NIKKOR 24mm f/2.8D Overview

Ideal for landscape and travel photography, the AF NIKKOR 24mm f/2.8D from Nikon offers a broad field of view along with a compact, lightweight form factor suited to walkaround use. Its modest f/2.8 maximum aperture strikes a balance between its sleek size and being fast enough for working in low-light conditions. Close Range Correction also helps to ensure consistent image quality and accurate rendering throughout the focusing range. Wide-angle prime lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.
Flexible f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in a variety of lighting conditions and also offers depth of field control for isolating subjects.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Close Range Correction system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from the minimum focusing distance of 1' to infinity.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

I was looking for a wider angle than what I already owned, which really isn’t much in the wide-angle lenses. I found this gem on the B&H site and wanted to try it out immediately. I love it! I can get a picture of my kids and a lot of landscape all in the frame! It’s a lovely lens!

I have used this lens for two years now and it almost never leaves my d810. I shot a lot of photojournalism work and sharp focus is extremely important this lens has never let me down. You could get the 24 f 1.4 but Imo save the money and get this lens you wont regret it. And it also works amazing on my d500 when I want some thing a little tighter. So dont be afraid to put this on a Cropped sensor.

We use this lens on a PB-4 Nikon Bellows and it delivers sharp photos in the reversed position.  Also mounted it on my D750 and it is a sharp walk around lens as long as you let your feet be the zoom.  Overall, I am well pleased.

This lens really impressive! You can really work for your shot and love it! It's super sharp, and works well in low light. I purchased this lens to capture lightening, still waiting for thunderstorms. :-) It produces some very nice bocca with close ups. I don't think my other photos uploaded for an internal sever error on this page. It's a great piece of hardware. I recommend it.

When I was a pro news photographer before retiring, this was my everyday walking around lens. I always tried to get in close for news photography and it was perfect.

question

Which is the fastest and most accurate auto focus, a lens that has it's own focus motor or a lens that uses the focus motor in the camera body?
Asked by: Trevor G.
It depends; there is no single 'right answer to this inquiry. Autofocus accuracy is dependent on the camera's autofocus sensor, and whether the lens is properly calibrated. Autofocus speed is determined by the autofocus motor, whether driven by the camera body or by the in-lens motor, though currently, some type of ultrasonic, ring-type motor, or a piezoelectric motor are the fastest offered by most manufacturers. In regards to Nikon lenses, Nikon lenses which use their Silent Wave Motor (lenses with AF-S in the lens name) would be the fastest focusing options from Nikon (faster than the AF-D lens listed above). At this time, in regards to interchangeable lenses, the Sony Alpha a6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera is stated to have the wold's fastest autofocus speed.

question

does this work on d7000 if so how well will it work right now the only lens I have is the 18 to 300 im looking for a wide angle for landscape shots
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon 24mm f2.8D lens will work very well on your Nikon D7000. If you were looking for something wider than 18mm's you may want to consider the Sigma 10-20mm lens. http://bhpho.to/1kez5dP

question

Can this lense be used with a Nikon FM?If not, could you recommend a wide angle lense compatible with the FM.

Yes, this lens could be used with a Nikon FM camera. Nikon D series lenses have a manually adjustable aperture ring on them which is required for using a lens on the FM camera.

question

How do the aperture works? should we have to turn all the way to the red letter for it to work ?
Asked by: Anonymous
If you have a Nikon DSLR or one of the SLRs that control aperture through the camera, you would want to lock the lens's aperture ring at the minimum aperture (f/22). To do this, you would set the aperture at f/22, and then slide the lock lever in the direction of the aperture ring so that the white dot on the dab aligns with the orange dot.
