Nikon 60mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

Ideal for close-up shooting, the Nikon AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D is a short telephoto macro lens offering a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with an 8.7" minimum focusing distance. Benefitting working throughout the focus range, the optical design uses a Close Range Correction system, which maintains consistent image quality and sharpness from the minimum focusing distance to infinity. Additionally, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Slightly longer-than-normal prime is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 90mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 8.7" to suit working with close-up subjects.
Close Range Correction system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Nikon 60mm f/2.8 reviews

    AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 130.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every cent and more I do close up work on collectibles like coins, knives and similar objects. This lens blows everything else I have used, from more expensive Macro lens to cheaper alternatives, out of the water. I also ocasionally use it for other more general photography where zoom is not required. Also doeas well. The resolution and definition are superb. Cons: The 60 mm focal length does require getting close for detail work but since I do not photograph nasties like insects there is no problem. Depth of field, which I thought would be a problem did not turn out to be one. Stopping down and increasing exposure time generally solves the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from suh-weet! I'm the kind of photographer that likes to get all up in it, whether it is a flower, a bug, or my daughter's eyelashes. The photos are crisp and sharp, with not a whole lot of distortion. And there are three different focal rangesportrait, macro, and super macro, if you really need those specks to become gargantuan. The only thing I can't figure out is the aperture lock. I'm not sure why there's an option to take the lock off, when the camera won't shoot unless the lock is on. Maybe this says more about my lack of technical digital photography training than it says about the lens, but I wish it were better explained in the instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I use the 60mm f/2.8 Macro Autofocus lens for two purposes. The first purpose is to photograph close-up industrual components. For this purpose the lens is absolutely great. The images are clear and sharp and provide the necessary detail. The other purpose is to photograph flowers. In a wind-free environment, the images I capture are vivid and completely true to color. In a windy environment, I usually have to take several shots to capture an acceptable image. This is the same problem that I have when using extension tubes. Thank goodness that the lens is mounted on a digital camera and not a film camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOW I love macro photography I have had a third-party macro lens for several years and it's always been frustrating; it worked super on my D2 but did not interface well with my D3, and the results were always disappointing. My D2 is no more, so I was looking for a new macro, and interested in the new 40mm, but too impatient to wait. This older model was in stock and while the price isn't as low as the 40mm, I have absolutely zero regrets. This lens has given me a whole new appreciation for macro photography. Focussing is so responsive and the images are sharp right out of the camera. The focal length also allows for non-macro use, a very convenient bonus. LOVE this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I have put in one other review about this lens some time ago. I just can't find a better lens than this macro (for macro), I can find more expensive but not really better. I like this better than the new 60mm because this one focuses a little farther away at 1:1. The new has too big of a hood for 1:1 shooting. This one (the AF-D) has an optional hood but I don't think it is needed. One other thing, 60mm is closer to normal appearance than others. In other words, The square items and the round items when together in your shot are just that. When you get shorter or longer that does not happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Sharp, Great Value, Easy to Use Well, obviously it functions primarily as a macro lens. Really shines. You will want to use a tripod. Get familiar with manual focus as well. Depth of field is super shallow, as should be expected. Every little movement can cause blur, so I will say again, use a tripod at any shutter speed. Also, use a remote, or at the very least, the timer, to allow camera shake from pressing the shutter release to stop. It is a lens that you will need to spend some time with to start getting the results you really want. Finally, you can use it for portrait type stuff, but again the depth of field is really shallow, and it will show every detail, fine line, wrinkle, and blemish in the skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute sharpness I have a busted ankle so I haven't use this lens too much outside. But, it focusses very quickly, and seems to be sharp as all get out. I really like the internal focus. I used to shoot with a f3.5 micro-Nikkor and loved that lens. But this one seems to be just as sharp, faster, and all around great. It is just about perfect. Extremely fast auto focus. 1:1. I also have the Tamron 90mm macro. I like this lens better. The AF is much better, but the Tamron is longer. For me, they are equally sharp. I would recommend both, but they are too close in focal length.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Macro Lens This is a good lens. It works well with still life's and small items. Not great for animals or moving objects. The auto focus is good, but really if your using this lens as a macro you want to use it in manual focus. Not that great for distant images. It does the job but not as well as a 50 1.4 or other lens. Great price for the lens. Also i am picky but the lens does come out of its shell to use macro. I like lenses that dont expose itself. And when your putting it back in your bag you have to put it into Manuel focus to pull it back into its shell. Good lens. Would be interested in the new 60 macro by nikon. But if your on a budget and just need a great quality lower price macro... cant beat it. I do love it.
