Nikon AF Fisheye NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D Overview

Capable of producing truly unique imagery, the AF Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D from Nikon offers a distinct and creative look, characterized by noticeable distortion and a broad 180° angle of view. A 9.8" minimum focusing distance can be used to accentuate close-up subjects and the Close-Range Correction system helps to ensure consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range. A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements, and helps to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, a built-in lens hood also cuts flare and offers some physical protection to the front element.

Fisheye prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 24mm equivalent focal length.
Full-frame coverage, 180° angle of view produces creatively distorted imagery and is well suited for interiors, sports, and nature applications.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is suitable for photographing in difficult lighting conditions.
Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Close-Range Correction system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from the minimum focusing distance of 9.8" to infinity.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Built-in petal-shaped hood helps prevent lens flare and also protects the front lens element.
Four rear filters are included: L37C UV, A2 light amber, B2 light blue, and 056 orange. One filter must be in place at all times.

I use this lens when I shot concert type of vents and Expo floors / Tradeshows. A lot of time I will put my camera on a monopod with the 16mm with a wireless remote and click away. The clients love the look, it is something they are not use to seeing. I think this lens is a great value for sure. Not priced to high. The images are super clear, the lens is small and easy to pack in my camera bag. I highly recommend this lens for the right content.

I wasn't sure how much I would use Nikon's 16mm fisheye lens, but it is now one of my favorite lenses and use it for many different effects. Great lens for artistic and everyday use!

I love it.

Great glass, poor focusing mechanism.

Great image, and rectilinear results are possible when using Imadio (I use the Photoshop plugin). However, the focusing mechanism is very imprecise. Jumps around quite a bit due to high friction. This is a problem in both autofocus and manual focus. It's a very old lens design, and is no longer competitive with other Nikon lenses.

question

Whats the difference between this one and the other one with the same specs, but 100 usd less?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is the Nikon USA version; the other version for $100 is the imported/grey market version. The Difference of USA and Grey (import) at B&H is a matter of warranty. The product is identical in all respects and both are made in the same factory. A USA warranted item may be repaired in any manufacturer's authorized service facility worldwide if the item required in-warranty service. The direct import item would have to be returned to B&H Photo-Video Corp. in New York City if it required in-warranty attention. Nikon USA lenses come with a 5 year warranty, the first year being valid world-wide, the remainder 4years valid in the USA only. Please note: Nikon USA will NOT service any product they identify to be imported/grey market.

Since the D7000 is a DX body you should use the 10.5mm fisheye lens instead.

question

is this lens compatible with the nikon D5100?
Asked by: Anonymous
The lens will fit but will not autofocus. The Nikon D5100 to autofocus needs a lens that has a built in focus motor. Nikon brand lenses marked AF-S not AF have a focus motor built in.There a couple of lenses that will work fine on the D5100.This one works on the D5100, http://bhpho.to/1g9t1iV

question

What size Op/Tech Lens hood would be recommended for the Nikkor 16mm fisheye lens? The Nikkor 24-120mm lens accessories recommend an large Lens Coat lens hood, but the D x L dimension of 3.3 x 4.1 would be a small according to Lens Coat specs. What size Op/Tech lens hood would you recommend for that lens? Likewise the Nikkor 80-400mm lens accessories recommend a large Lens Coat lens hood, but the D x L dimension of 3.8 x 8.0 would be a medium according to Lens Coat specs. Likewise what size Op/Tech lens hood would you recommend for that lens? Thanks

For the Nikon 16mm f/2.8 lens, I would suggest the Op/Tech Hood Hat Mini: http://bhpho.to/SoZjAWFor the Nikkor 24-120mm, the Small Op/Tech Hood Hat will be fine: http://bhpho.to/1vNV2GoFor the Nikkor 80-400mm lens, the Medium will suffice: http://bhpho.to/1aD863l
