Sony's DCR-SX63 16GB Handycam Camcorder offers up a bevy of budget-friendly recording options and features. The SX63 is a standard definition, flash memory based camera with 16GB of internal, or as Sony puts it, embedded flash memory. The cam also provides the option to record to Sony's Memory Stick media, including Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media. And in accord with other 2010 camcorders from Sony, the SX63 now also allows for use of optional SD/SDHC memory cards.
At the core of the DCR-SX63 you'll find a 1/8" Advanced HAD CCD image sensor. Sony's HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) imager has 410K effective pixels of resolution and up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution for capturing quality video and still images. Another feature that warrants mention is the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization. This lens brings the legendary Carl Zeiss name and quality to the table, while Sony's SteadyShot helps to cut down on the blur caused by motion, more commonly referred to as camera shake. Another important feature is the 2.7" Clear Photo LCD. The LCD gives you a widescreen platform on which to compose and play back your images, along with 270° rotation, and a touch panel for convenient access to menus and other functions, including spot metering and spot focus.
Sony's proprietary functions of Film Roll Index and Face Index are included on the SX63 as well. The Film Roll Index works like the chapters in a book, helping you to easily find scenes in your footage. The Face Index function uses Face Detection to search for scenes using a particular face. Other important functions of the camera include Digital Still Capture, 60x optical zoom, Face Detection, an LED video light, and Power On by opening the LCD.
- LED video light for capturing video in low-light situations
- Power on your camcorder by simply opening the camera's LCD display
- USB 2.0 provides an easy connection between your camcorder and PC for fast transfer of video and stills
