    Vivitar VIV-PG-D5000 reviews

Deluxe Power Grip for Nikon D5000 is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Supported By D5000 Terrible, but probably not the grip's fault. At least 6 times today my d5000 displayed an error message while using this grip. It informed me that the battery I was using was not supported, even though I was using two identical Nikon batteries in the grip! I had to turn off the camera and remove the batteries in order for the camera to work again. Will most likely return. This grip is not worth $ if I have to go through this or, even worse, if I miss a once in a lifetime shot because of it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Review other options before buying this Product works but, I can only get it to work consistently with only one battery installed verses using 2 battery's. I get errors at times stating to use only the approved batteries for the camera. Other downfall is that Nikon did not include the contacts in to the battery slot for the PG instead you have to have a additional cord from the PG to the camera. After contacting Vivitar, they state they do not support this product anymore!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, but only with one battery Vertical battery grip looks great and works the same. Fits flush with the D5000 and looks like it came with the camera. For me, makes the camera balance and feel better and looks 'cool', kind of like a full-frame model. Downside: only works with one battery even though it's made to hold two. Plenty of battery life IF you do not use the LCD and 'live-view'. Really wears them out if you do. Putting two batteries in produces 'Battery cannot be used. Choose battery designed for use in this camera'. Both of my batteries are identical: Nikon EN-EL9a's and each works in the grip, but just not together. I keep the 2nd one charged in the backpack and have yet to have to resort to using it in the field. Really good battery life, many clicks. Call to Vivitar customer service was useless, make that less than useless, I eventually hung up the phone. Just keep a charged back-up battery and you won't have any problems.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from works but takes a patience When I ordered this product I thought this was going to be really easy to just get it connected and go take pictures but then I noticed it was just like the other reviews that it wasn't working or anything. I was about to return this but I read some other reviews on a different site about a different powergrip and someone mentioned the cord that comes in the box, the little booklet that comes with the power grip doesn't say what it is or what it's for... it's to connect the powergrip to your camera! allowing it to work! They should be putting that in the directions because you think you just slip it in and it's good to go. Other than that frustrating moment I'm pleased with it. If the cord bothers you then this isn't for you...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not reccomend it I bought this grip for my D5000 and quickly returned it. It kept giving me a Battery Cannot Be Used message. I tested the batteries on the camera without the grip and they worked fine. I don't recommend you buy this..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Addition to Photographers Bag It is such a hassle and awkward when taking a handheld portrait shot with your arm hanging over your head. With this addition to my bag it has made what I enjoy doing that much easier. Comfortable, light weight, and great added stability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Highly Recommend this Product The addition of this power grip had an immediate impact to the quality of my hand-held shots. It provided a tighter, steadier grip for which translated to clearer prints and better print quality.
