Crisp, clear, exceptional quality. True Nikon quality which is second to none especially when it comes to optic glass. This teleconverter will make a fantastic addition to your arsenal of photographic tools.

Best 2x teleconverter I’ve used.

I owned Tamron 70-200mm DI VC USD lens (Made in Japan). I was searching capable 2x teleconverter for extension. People saying that TC-20E III is not convertible with third party lenses. With a little modification, I can able to use TC-20E III with my Tamron lens. The results are unbelievable. The images are very sharp and cannot even tell the different without pixel peaking. My lens now becomes fully capable 140-400mm telephoto lens. Nikon should made their converter to be able to use with third party lenses from day one. By the way, I just want to share my experience. If you need 2x teleconverter TC-20E III is the one to go. I definitely recommend the product.

I saw my friend's photos which are taken with Teleconverter TC-20E III. They are amazing, so I order one. It was a back order. I waited for more than 2 months to receive it in last week. I just cannot wait more for using it!

Much better than expected

I bought this on a lark. I'm using it with a Z6 (Original model) and a 300mm f4.0 PF lens. With the focus points covering most of the sensor, I don't run into the AF limitations of a DSLR where the minimum aperture setting is f8. Providing that the light is good, I find that the photos taken with this TC are razor sharp. I've heard that other lenses may not produce the same results, but with the 300 PF lens, I'm not reaching for the TC-1.4 iii very often anymore.

Works fine with Nikkor 200-500 mm zoom

I purchased this for use with a Nikkor 200-500 mm zoom It works as anticipated. It does not support autofocus, but I do not consider that a serious drawback.

Nikon Teleconverter TC-20E III with Nikkor 80-400 MM 4.5-5.6

By Richard

I purchased the Teleconverter to use with my Nikon D810 and the Nikon 80-400 MM 4.5-5.6 G ED Lens. The lens is not on the Nikon official list for working with the Teleconverter. This appears to be because the Camera/Lens/Teleconverter combination will not autofocus at the higher levels. It does, however, manual focus at these levels. I have tested the autofocus capability between 80-200MM (160-400MM) and the focus is sharp. I suspect that the autofocus stops at the point where the lens converts from 4.5 to 5.6, but have not confirmed this. The manual focus is also sharp. I live in Colorado and primarily shoot wildlife, Elk, Moose, Mountain Sheep, etc, and Landscapes. Accordingly, the camera is often mounted on a tripod so manual focusing is not a problem. I can see that there might be a problem with birds in flight and sports. The Teleconverter mounted to the Lens and the Camera with no problem. There was no need for any modification which were mentioned in older posts. When the pictures were loaded into Lightroom, the meta data did display correctly, i.e. that pictures with the Teleconverter were shot between 160-800MM. All in all I am very happy with the Teleconverter.

question

Shooting with a Nikon 80-400 on a D800-- will the Tc-20EIII 2X auto focus?
Asked by: Anonymous
While the teleconverter will fit on the 80-400mm, you will most likely lose the ability to autofocus when using this lens/teleconverter combination. Please take note of the following information when using teleconverters:When using teleconverters, you are not only magnifying the lens by the conversion rate of the teleconverter, but also the F/stop value. For example, when using a 2x converter on a lens with a variable f-stop range of f4-5.6, your lens' f-stop range is now f8-f11. Most SLR cameras require at least f8 worth of light in order to autofocus. With that in mind most lenses that are not luminous to begin with will require you to manually focus the lens as the autofocus feature wont likely work. Autometering would still be possible.

question

Hi, I have a Nikon D200 and a AF-S Nikkor 70-300 1:4.5 - 5.6 G Lens, wanted to know if this TC-20E III 2x Teleconverter will work with them.
Asked by: Anonymous
No it will not. The Nikon TC-20E III converter is only compatible with a select list of Nikon Pro series lenses, of which none of the 70-300mm type lenses are compatible.

question

I am looking for a (2X)tele-converter for my Nikon D40 and D-3100.I shoot with the 55-200 and the 55-300.
Asked by: Anonymous
Both lenses will not work with a teleconverter. To use a teleconverter the lens needs to be 70mm or longer. And to autofocus with a 2x teleconverter on the D40 and D3100 the lenses need to be f/2.8

If you are referring to the Nikon 200-500, this will work on that lens, but Nikon never made a 200-400mm.

It should be compatible, though it is not guaranteed by Nikon. Sigma TC-2001 2x Teleconverter for Nikon F (B&H # SITC2001N MFR # 870306) is compatible though.

question

will the TC-20E III 2X work with the Nikkor 28X300 lens? If not, will any teleconverter work with this lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon TC-20E III 2x Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-I Lenses is only compatible with a select number of Nikons pro-level telephoto zoom lenses, and is not compatible with the 28-300mm lens. Unfortunately, there isn't a teleconverter that can be used with the 28-300mm lens. Lenses that have a wide angle, have a lens construction where the rear element sticks out far more than a lens that has a 50mm or longer focal length. For this reason, lenses that have focal lengths wider than 50mm are not typically compatible with teleconverters, even if you could fit one on the back of the lens, you would again seriously risk damaging the rear element of the lens.
