Redrock Micro microMatteBox overview

  • 1Description

The Redrock Micro microMatteBox Standard Bundle is a universal matte box system that accommodates any lens – whether camcorder, film camera, DSLR, or 35mm lens adapter. With its convenient swing-away design, this cinema-grade lens attachment allows the use of 4x4" and 4x5.65" professional filters that can rotate 360° or be easily swapped out for different looks. Everything on the microMatteBox can be easily locked, adjusted, or simply removed.

Configurability is key, and not only of filters: optional Redrock accessories include the 15mm microSupport system as well as flags and additional filter stages. And since the microMatteBox uses industry-standard support and filter sizes, it's completely compatible with existing 15mm and 19mm rod/rail systems. (The optional Redrock Micro 19mm/15mm Studio Support Arm accommodates 19mm systems.) With its high-quality design and affordability, the microMatteBox system is built for productions small, large, or anywhere in between.

Note: The microMatteBox Standard Bundle does not come with support rods, baseplate, filters, or flags, which are available separately.

    Redrock Micro microMatteBox reviews

microMatteBox Standard Bundle is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Some Parts are Very Cheap Plastic beware My matte box will be almost 2 years old in a few months. I take great care of my equipment and even store it in the original box I bought it in and have only used this just a handful of times. I noticed by chance some cracks and fractures, and after looking very closely they are coming out from all of the screw mounts that you will find in the back piece of the Matte Box (the ring the donuts go into). Some are to the point of almost breaking the chunks of this cheaply made plastic molded piece off of the part that its mounted on, and to the point of the mounting screws not even being able to hold the part together if the cracks split any more...which they will cause the damage is done.I have never even touched anything on this since the purchase. I have emailed and showed many photos of the issue to Red Rock Micro and was told first that they have never heard of such a thing happening. Then after sending the photos they then send another email stating that this is just showing signs of wear.REALLY ! So now to my understanding is your RedRock Micro parts that you spend a ton of money on and take care of....only last less than 2 years???That is very bad customer service, they cant even stand behind there product after showing proof, and then to be told its just 'signs of wear'.I really hate that I have caught this problem this late. I know its because when RedRock assembled the piece they torqued down to hard...I mean really, screws into plastic! I thought the piece was metal the whole time.I hope all of you out there that own this thing take a closer look especially for this part of the Matte Box...hopefully they didnt screw yours down so tight that its falling apart. If any of you want photos, email me ... to show you the problem. The only solution now is to hand over more of your hard earned money for the replacement part. I can understand if I banged the part myself with a hammer, that I should pay up. It's Amazing they can't even understand its there fault, and blame it on wear, which cracks me up (literally) everytime. Cause it just shows me they expect there product to only hold up for a short time I guess.Would be awesome to get a replacement REDROCK!Would be even better if you made it out of metal or something more durable....and never put metal screws into plastic RedRock.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from mattebox I find it too heavy and it comes loose very quickly. Regular tightening will fix up the problem. I can't complain about the price but you get what you pay for. If you can't afford more, then this will do the job quite well. Mine hasn't fallen apart but I find the filter holders a little unstable at times. If you have zoom, forget donuts and get nun nickers or you will be cursing. Looks impressive and the swivel door makes it fast for lens changes. I used it with DSLR and also Scarlet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth it This Mattebox looks great. Unfortunately, the designers - or the lack of there of - at Redrock did a poor job. Do more than 20 shoots with it and you will see what I mean. Bolts and threads do not last. I have this with the shoulder rig. Assembling these two together feels like mixing metric and imperial - something just ain't right. Invest your money in something that will last and perform well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every cent and then some Very inexpensive and well designed, 2 rotating trays, and swinging gate makes it easy for lens swaps without removing the entire matte box. Just one downside is the 4x4 adapters are very cheap, they do the job but I would recommend 4x5.65 sized filters when working with this matte box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great matte Box This is a large, solidly built unit with a swing away feature. This matte box works great and will stand the test of hard knocks. It is not something you use hand held, but works well on a tripod as a part of the Red Rock Micro rod and baseplate system. It is priced just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Matte Box Simple and efficient.Easily adjustable, and the practical swing-away bracket makes changing lenses a lot simpler. Exactly what I need.
