    IOGEAR GUH287 reviews

3-Port USB 2.0 Hub and 45-in-1 Card Reader is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Alright I guess Cord that connects it to your USB has 2 USB connectors and the cord between the 2 is pretty short. Only problem is my MacBook Pro only has 2 USB ports and they are on opposite sides of the keyboard so it is impossible for me to have both plugged in at the same time. It ran some of my things through the hub on just one of them being plugged in but I'm worried that if I try to use it as a card reader that it'll have to have both plugged in. Only bought it because it was cheap, needed a hub for my stuff and figured I could have a back-up card reader incase my professional one breaks or something.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little box Small, lightweight, it works. But there are a few things that I don't like about it: When I first opened it, I was a bit surprised to see that this requires two USB ports to work. So the three USB hub really only adds one port to your computer. Another thing is that the cards don't lock into it, they just slide and sit. Also, at least the SD card slot is upside down (The metal connectors go up, rather than down as most do) and I would assume the rest are the same, although I've not had an oppertunity to test that yet. The cord is also pretty short, and due to the dual USB requirement, you'll either need a USB hub extendor to extend it, or you'll need an extension cord for the side that plugs into the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More bang for your buck - Less to carry This puppy is PERFECT for the traveler. I'm also using it at home. Lots of folks are under the impression that ioGear made some dumb mistake with their two-headed USB cable. It's actually simply brilliant. They managed to create a multi-card reader (that takes USB power, btw) and a 3-port hub, by only using two of your USB ports. Normally you would have a small black brick to plug into AC and plug into the hub. That's the most common way of providing the correct amount of DC voltage down each USB port. (Yes, there is specified power on every USB port.) Go ahead and try BRAND X USB hub that is not powered. Plug in a mouse, a Wacom Bamboo, and an external hard drive and watch your system freeze. Or, buy a powered hub with an annoying AC adapter that you won't have a spare AC hole for. I gotta say, every piece of ioGear I own is EXCELLENT. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOUR COMPUTER ONLY HAS ONE USB PORT!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Totally plug 'n play The thing works great upon plug in to Mac OSX 10.4.x but was surprised to have to plug it into BOTH USB ports on my laptop (hence the 4 stars.) should have known this from the ad but maybe it was not clearly presented? No biggie as I now have 2 USB ports open and can read any flash memory, SD, etc. my printer USB'd in full time as well. This IO Gear hub reads 45 types of flash media. Seems like it's faster too. (Some cards go in upside down)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from inexpensive but works well I read the reviews before purchasing, and knew what to expect. Some quirks are the two headed usb adapter (one plug for data and one plug for extra power) and ejecting the entire device to change cards (reasonable but not desirable, might be windows' fault). I bought this (actually two of them) because I wanted an inexpensive card reader to read my new sdhc card. Since my camera and software download the pictures from the cards, I only wanted a card reader for direct access to the cards.I don't need or use the extra USB ports on the reader as my machine has plenty, and I don't use many to begin with. Furthermore, you don't need to use both of the usb plugs to read cards. apparently, you only need the second plug if you need more usb power. I only have to plug in the data portion of the cable to read cards. When you plug it in, it shows up as 4 individual drive letters in windows, but does not require any additional software or drivers (I'm using windows xp). and to eject safely remove hardware, there is only a single line entry to choose (not one for each drive letter) which I like.works like a champ with my B&H lexar 32gb class 10 sdhc cards. Nice and fast. I think I plugged in a jump drive, as well, to make sure that worked without extra power head plugged in (and it did).there are interfaces (plugs) on all 4 sides of this device, and someone else mentioned that the usb ports are close together (and they are). this probably wouldn't be a prolem if you were plugging normal usb cords into them, but if you were plugging anything like a jump drive that was wider than usual, you might not be able to use all the slots.I was also impressed with the attentiveness and responses from the manufacturer in this feedback forum.Wish these were *.Otherwise, I recommend if you want an inexpensive card reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Iogear does it right Not much to say about this card reader really. I mainly use it for compact flash cards but have tried it with some old Memory Sticks, as well as SD, miniSD, and miniSD in an SD adaptor. All transferred at expected USB 2.0 speeds, which really isn't the fastested thing ever, but works fine for people with an attention span longer than 3 seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product We use digital HD cameras to record dance concerts. The 3-port USB hub is used to download the video card data from the camera to the computer for review and editing. It is fast, efficient and makes life a lot simpler for transfering the video files to the computer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product! :D short cable :( I had a dell monitor with a side usb hub and card reader, so when I got another monitor, I moved the dell monitor to my sister's bedroom... New monitor was great but I knew something special was missing... the usb hub and card reader... So I decided too look for the best (quality and price) usb hub and card reader... I was so happy when I found this one, It got home really fast and worked like a charm, nice colors, no drivers needed, etc etc etc (really great product)... but! Yep, sorry, there's a 'but', it comes with a double usb adapter (one for data/power and another one for power) but it's just too short, like a foot long and that's it, I mean, I have my computer on the floor and I wanted the reader next to the monitor foot stand, and since the manual recommends to use both connectors always, solution? had to bought 2 usb extensions, no big deal, but, I mean, that's just for me, If you want this for a laptop, it would be great (as long as you have 2 usb connectors together/on the same side). Thanks a lot! I hope you find this useful.
