APC XS 1500 overview

  • 1Description

The Power Saving Back-UPS XS 1500 from APC provides power to your important computer components in the event of an electrical outage. The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) contains a battery which continues to power computers, monitors and other components if the electricity is cut from them. An LCD status display provides information including remaining battery life, load capacity, and event notices. The long-lasting battery is hot-swappable and easy to replace. An audible alarm alerts you of events like power outage and low battery. Ten outlets on the back of the unit provide surge protection, and five of those outlets also connect devices to battery backup so they continue running in the event of power failure.

Battery Failure Notification
Provides early-warning fault analysis on batteries enabling timely preventive maintenance.
Power-Saving Outlets
Automatically cuts power to idle equipment to conserve electricity.
Resettable Circuit Breaker
Easy recovery from overloads; no need to replace a fuse.
Data-line Protection
Protection of data lines (Ethernet, Coaxial and Phone lines) ensures complete protection of your equipment from surges. It is very important to protect your equipment from "back door" surges traveling through data lines, as they can be as damaging to your equipment as surges traveling over power lines.
Always-on Outlets
Eight outlet models offer dedicated space to accommodate wide transformer blocks without covering adjoining outlets and two always on outlets. You can plug eight power cords including three transformers at the same time. In case you have equipment that has to stay on all the time, such as fax machine, you can plug it in always on outlets. The equipment will be protected and will have power supply even when the unit is switched off.
Battery-Protected and Surge-Only Outlets
Reserves power capacity and run time for connected equipment that require battery back-up while providing surge only protection for less critical equipment.
Hot-Swappable Batteries
Ensures clean, uninterrupted power to protected equipment while batteries are being replaced
Boost Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)
Preserves battery life and maximizes runtime by correcting low voltages without discharging the battery.
Automatic Self-Test
Periodic battery self-test ensures early detection of a battery that needs to be replaced.
Adjustable Voltage-Transfer Points
Maximizes useful battery life by widening the input voltage window or tightening the output voltage regulation.
Adjustable Voltage Sensitivity
Provides the ability to adapt the UPS for optimal performance in specific power environments or generator applications.
Audible Alarms
Provides notification of changing utility power and UPS conditions.
USB Connectivity
Provides management of the UPS via a USB port (not available on all models).
Safety-Agency Approved
Ensures the product has been tested and approved to work safely with the connected service provider equipment and within the specified environment. UL, FCC, CE, C-Tick approvals.
Lifetime Data Recovery Warranty
Provides peace of mind by providing professional data recovery services in the event data is lost due to the failure of the unit.
Building Wiring Fault
Indicator This LED informs users of potentially dangerous wiring problems in the wall circuit.
Adjustable Voltage Sensitivity
Provides the ability to adapt the Power Conditioner for optimal performance in specific power environments or generator applications.
Battery Replacement Without Tools
Allows quick, easy battery replacement.
LCD Graphics Display
Text and mimic diagrams that display modes of operation, system parameters and alarms.

    APC XS 1500 reviews

Power Saving Back-UPS XS 1500 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from APC support needs help Ordered the unit June 20th. it arrived on the 27th. Deployed at the customer site on the 29th. On power up the Battery failed. Turns out the unit was built 11/3/2017 and APC says after 6 months of no power their batteries will usually fail! They were supposed to start an RMA as the system now puts the customer data at risk as the is not 100%. That was on the 29th. I had to call again on the 2nd of July as there was no RMA information email. The tech had not bothered to start the RMA. it was finally started the afternoon of the 2nd. Sadly (being on the west coast) after 1100 PST on a Friday, there is no support from B&H available. Buy with caution

Rated 4 out of 5 by from APC XS-1500 I purchased 2 of these units to provide backup to 4 PC Workstations. The area I live in seems to have weekly outages that last from momentary to 1 hour. You might think I live in the 3rd world - but No I live in VA just west of Washington DC. After 1 year of service, both units have faithfully kept my computers on line, without interruption of operation. I have NOT tested the monitoring or shutdown features (linking UPS via USB to Computer for power management). As each Unit powers 2 workstations - would have to decide which one matters most. Would like to monitor these with SCADA system - but can't see how. Nothing in manuals give even a hint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought two - one good, one had discharged battery I bought two of these to replace two old Back-UPS 1500 that I had that needed new batteries and they were a great price. One worked fine, but the other one showed that the battery needed replacing. I left it on overnight and it did not change. The display showed the battery was charged. So I took the battery out and put it in the old unit. It showed the battery as empty, and then charged it up. Now the old unit works perfectly with the new battery. I did not try to then switch the battery again to see if it would now work in the new unit, as I suspect something is wrong with it. But I won't return it as it would cost too much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and simple I was going to spring for a higher end APC model, but reviews indicated that this model, unlike others, is very quiet -- a priority for me. Well, it is whisper quiet, even next to me in a cabinet partially open. For a test I connected to my refrigerator to see what happens when running on batteries. To my surprise it ran for an hour, with the LED display showing clearly and accurately levels of battery left. Recharging the UPS took overnight. I moved it back to my office to replace an old 650VA CyberPower. Despite hot weather, no overheating, no fans kicking in, no strange beeping. Time will tell durability, but out-of-the-box it is good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied home and business customer I bought this XS 1500 to replace my old white Back-UPS XS 1500, which I passed down to my kid (with new batteries). The unit installed in a snap, and the instructions were easy to follow. I like the new design and black color, and the LCD screen is an added plus. It has plenty of outlets for all of my needs, cable and phone protection, and the power to handle my upcoming computer upgrade. The Powerchute software is quick and informative. I found APC products to be well built, reliable, quiet, and easy to install and use. I have APC Back-UPS protecting four computers at home, as well as five computers and a server at work. Nothing bad to say about this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OLD BATTERY Purchased on sale but came with a battery over 1-1/2 years old. Specs read battery lasts 3-5 years so potentially the battery that I received was already half way thru it's useful life. Even on sale, this is not a good deal. Beware of old stock sold by some retailers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not thrilled I've had the BACK-UPS BX1500G for a few years now, and I suppose that I should be happy that the battery lasted this long. From my perspective, though, this is just yet another in a series of UPSs from APC that don't see hard duty, but wind up failing in what seems to me to be a short period of time. I rarely have power outages at my house, and I do like the features, power, and look of this UPS. I'm just tired of dealing with replacement batteries for my UPSs from APC. Maybe it's just me. Instead of getting a replacement, I think I'll try another brand and see if it's just the nature of the battery beast.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unacceptable Performance Bought this to provide backup to a Honeywell alarm system that draws less than 40 watts because power outages cause false alarms. Despite the size and expense, the unit could not even last 2 hours without failing and causing the alarm to fire. The self diagnosis never indicated a problem with either of the 2 batteries, yet one was starting to fail. Even with 2 good batteries the run-time on this unit is only slightly more than half that of the far less expensive Cyber 1350 with the exact same load. I'm testing as I write this with an 18watt load and the weaker battery replaced, but the fan has run continuously and after 35 minutes a full charge is nearly depleted. I cannot rely on this unit. It reminds me of a popular piece of backup sw in the late 80's that was "Top-Rated" by PC Magazine, with all kinds of great features. Only its ability to restore from its backup discs if the PC crashed was unreliable. IOW, what's the point of an unreliable backup system that inevitably fails when you need it?
