Tiffen 52DIGEK3 overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 52mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital shooter requires.

UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Circular Polarizer
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Neutral Density
Neutral Density filters from Tiffen have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Since they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And since they can also help to control your depth of field, they permit you to shoot at wider apertures. Ultimately, their value is in helping to prevent bright, overly washed out images shot in bright light.

The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants,.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

UV Protector

Tiffen filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection

Circular Polarizer

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Makes a blue sky bluer
Enhances clouds

Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed ISOs, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situation
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process
Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

    Tiffen 52DIGEK3 reviews

52mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would definitely buy this again. You can definitely not underestimate the value of using filters. For starters, I'd much rather have a piece of sand or dirt come up and crack a filter than an expensive lens. Besides that benefit, I love using them, playing with them, the added effects and enhancements they give my photos, etc. There is a great booklet that comes with this starter set that not only explains the included filters (so you know what they do and when to use them), but the booklet also gives you lots of information about other filter options. My only complaint is the the booklet makes you want to buy more filters. : )

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed with the Circular Polarizer The UV and ND filters in this kit are great, and I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for the Circular Polarizer. For one, it is very dark compared to my other CPL filters, which makes using it a bit of a hassle. Second, once you get it on it is nearly impossible to get off since there is very little to grab onto without spinning the polarized part of the lens. I did not have it on very tight at first, and while I was using it the filter fell off of my lens so I put it on a little tighter. It was a pain to get off. Overall I would not recommend this kit, however I would recommend the Neutral density and UV filters individually. They are very durable and well built.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from quality filters that cut haze well. protects my new lens and gives a new prespective to my pictures by eliminating haze giving the picture a more natural look, with blue skys and greener greens. I am very happy with my Tiffen filters they also come with a nice nylon case to protect my purchase. Will definately shop B&H in the future

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice kit for beginners. The relatively low price compared to other brands quite warned me, but I decided to try these filters. And at the end I left satisfied. The CPL filter greatly exceeding expectations. The performance is quite identical to the performance of additional filter of another very famous brand that I have. I don't know how ND filter works compared to other same filters, but it improved my ability to shoot long exposures and i have not bad results. In terms of level of finish is very high quality product. Very durable and high quality glass, even compared to other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect starter kit Great kit for someone who wants to purchase their first set of filters at a great price. Nice padded case comes included and has room for more filters for the future. I've had this kit for a couple of weeks now and have only really used the polarized filter, but I will say that it seems as though the quality of these lenses is great. Getting back into photography on a budget so this is the perfect choice for me. Didn't want to pay big money for filters that I will use on my kit lenses that came with my Nikon D3300.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trio well-worth the thrifty price The circular polarizing lens works wonderfully, and my shots of flowers with the big blue sky in the background are amazing. I haven't used the other two yet, but it's nice knowing I have them safely stored in the handy carrying pouch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value I felt the price was good for the 3 filters and the case. They do a good job of protecting my lense and I have enjoyed the color punch the polarizer filter gives me
