Tiffen 67DIGEK3 overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 67mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital shooter requires.

UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Circular Polarizer
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Neutral Density
Neutral Density filters from Tiffen have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Since they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And since they can also help to control your depth of field, they permit you to shoot at wider apertures. Ultimately, their value is in helping to prevent bright, overly washed out images shot in bright light.

The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants,.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

UV Protector

Tiffen filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection

Circular Polarizer

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Makes a blue sky bluer
Enhances clouds

Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed ISOs, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situation
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process

    Tiffen 67DIGEK3 reviews

67mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 out of 3 isn't too bad This is my first filter kit ever and I am still learning when it is appropriate to use each type of filter. I used the neutral density for waterfall pictures and already realized that I need something stronger than a 0.6. The UV filter is nice, I pretty much leave it on all the time. I have used the circular polarizer a few times, the pictures seem nice but the filter itself doesn't seem to seat correctly with the lens so I am nervous it may fall off if I am not paying attention. For an entry level filter kit I think it is good for the price and will probably by another one for my smaller lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from To much BAGgage Nothing outstanding either way about the three filters (UV, Polarizer, and ND). Getting all three filters in one kit was a cost savings. I've used Tiffen filters for many decades. I don't expect the glass to fall out of the mounts and no scratches. But the carrier they arrived in! It's a HUGE filter wallet with netting pouches on both sides. No plastic containers like all filters I've purchased for the past 40+ years after photo school; it's OK for memory cards (inside plastic containers!), but NOT for unprotected glass. If the filters get scratched, it's likely from the netting; and fingerprints from trying to remove them. The wallet takes up excessive space in my bags. What were they thinking?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product and prompt delivery I bought this filter kit for my Utah trip. As usual BH photo video had the accurate product description and prompt delivery. Shipment arrived just as promised and was very happy with quality of the product. I used all 3 lenses on the trip, the circular polarizer being used the most. Only had issue fastening circular polarizer filter firmly to the lens, fits a bit loose so giving 4 stars, no issues with the other two filters. would recommend this affordable lens kit as a great first kit to own.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good starter kit You get what you pay for here: These three filters cost about as much as a single, quality filter. No fancy anti-reflective coatings, no edge treatments, etc. However, for the price, this is a great starter kit: Every lens should have a clear or UV filter to protect the lens. You also get a polarizer to explore its uses. I'm not quite sure what to do with a neutral density filter (rather than a graduated-density) unless you are still shooting 35mm film. Obviously, I thought it was an appropriate match for the medium-low end 70-300mm lens that I purchased with it, so don't get the wrong impression. You can spend more, and get more, but this kit might be all you need. Not for extreme wide-angle lenses: get a thin mounting ring instead.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inexpensive, but cheap... Although this was an inexpensive set of filters, I found them to be cheaply made and not usable. All three filters had poor threads, such that they were very difficult to screw on to the lens and then had a tendency to pop off. Cross threading would certainly be possible with repeated on-off's. I bought these to go with my wife's inexpensive DSLR + kit lens, but my own experience with high quality B+W filters shows me that you get what you pay for. I'm going to be returning these and buying her a higher quality UV and circular polarizer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 67mm filter kit and 58mm adapter I just got a good chance to try them today. The combination UV filter and circular polarizer filter make a really great combination for long distance, high zoom pictures. They reduce both haze and glare. Pictures not worth printing without the filters are worth printing with the filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All you need to start with!! Whether you are a beginner or not this is a great filter kit! You can't beat the price and you have your 3 basic filters you need to begin. I love them all!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No thread for you! First off, this kit was purchased to be a companion to the Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EFS IS lens, and was suggested by B&N. Pros: I like the contents. Seemed like a good deal for three filters (UV, Neutral, Polarizer) and a pouch for the new lens I was purchasing. The pouch has room for a total of four filters. With one (the UV) always mounted on the lens, there is room to hold two more. Cons: the UV filter threads do not mate well with the threads on the Canon 18-135mm lens.
