Tiffen 77DIGEK3 overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 77mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital shooter requires.

UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Circular Polarizer
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Neutral Density
Neutral Density filters from Tiffen have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Since they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And since they can also help to control your depth of field, they permit you to shoot at wider apertures. Ultimately, their value is in helping to prevent bright, overly washed out images shot in bright light.

The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants,.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

UV Protector

Tiffen filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection

Circular Polarizer

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Makes a blue sky bluer
Enhances clouds

Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed ISOs, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situation
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process
Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

    Tiffen 77DIGEK3 reviews

77mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 129.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Value for the Money 3 of the most useable filters and a nice carrying case. They also happen to be very well made, and solid. In fact the polarizer paid for itself today, was out shooting an airship with a pearly white body, on a day with lots of fluffy white cumulous clouds behind it. It did a wonderful job of pulling the zeppelin out from the background. As for the .06 ND and the UV, both built tough as nails and do what they are intended to do. You can spend a LOT more money on these filters, But I have trouble believing you can squeeze much more value out of them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good professional size filters These filters are great quality Tiffen glass in the new professional 77mm size. The bag has a spot for a forth filter, but I put a 62-77 step-up in that spot. I have been taking pictures longer than all the new and latest technologies in filter design have come onto the market. While multicoated and low dispersion etc etc filters may have an edge, it is not one I have seen in prints. There are many opinions on filters on the internet. It is my own opinion that these filters will not let you down, as they have not let me down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must Have Accessories Filters are those bottom list things that really, really come in handy sometimes. I always put off buying these things, but really, you have to have them, just for that one case when you really really really need them. Tiffen makes a good filter that won't break the bank or delay the purchase of a major equipment upgrade. Polorizer, haze and ND are the basic must haves. Recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't work on Canon 24-105 f/4 L Lens The UV/Haze filter in this kit touches the front element of the above mentioned lens when screwed on tight. Some people say they just loosen it and go with it, however I feel that the filter should be secure on the front of the lens and not touch the front element. I imagine the filter works great for other lenses, however for this lens it was a no go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 77mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit This kit was packaged with everything I needed for lens filters. Other companies has the UV filter packaged with the circular polarizer but not the neutral density and would have to buy that separately and have a filter I don't really need or would use. When I saw the kit online, I immediately hit the add to cart button as it was precisely what I was looking for and for a great price! The filters are made well but dont quite tighten as well as Id like but that would not stop me from recommending this setup!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Three Filters I Wanted, In A Kit! I got these with my new Canon camera and 24-70 2.8L. So nice to get what I wanted to buy all in one kit. I almost always have gone with Tiffen even when renting for motion picture Cinematography. I preferred their polarizer filter over the others I tested. It was nice to protect my new lens especially when I am getting used to its size and shape. Having an ND filter is great. I have never treated myself to one in my home kit. I like to blur the waterfalls in my landscapes with a slow shutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality I don't think you'll find a noticeable quality improvement buying more expensive filters. These are as good as it gets in spite if their affordable price and their equivalent in other brands is way more expensive.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good The CP filter is very good! It really amps up the color and reduces glare on water and glass. It also allows me to replace the lens cap so no need to remove the filter...
