Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED Overview

Taking the classic wide-angle field of view and pairing it with an impressively fast design, the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED from Nikon is a versatile lens for a variety of subjects, ranging from landscape to nature to street photography. The f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over focus position for producing shallow depth of field imagery. A Nano Crystal Coating has also been applied to suppress flare for improved contrast. Additionally, the Silent Wave Motor affords fast, near-silent autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.
Notably fast f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also enables greater control over depth of field for selective focus imagery
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are used in the optical construction to reduce a variety of chromatic aberrations and color fringing for a high degree of clarity and color neutrality.
Two aspherical elements are featured to control spherical aberrations and distortion in order to produce notable sharpness and resolution.
A Nano Crystal Coating has been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. A rear focusing design is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Love this lens so sharp so clean the color is crisp with a 3-D feel. The Boca Creamy and you can really get close to your subject with little distortion or no distortion. You will not be disappointed. Make me feel like a pro .....how did I not get this Lens sooner should’ve been my first Lens. Thank you B&H for having it when nobody else did. Enjoy talking to you salesman he was very helpful.

I have a few other Nikon lenses, including the 35mm f/1.4G, which I love. I love the colors and the high contrast it gives. Also super sharp. Probably not a fair comparison, but definitely one level higher than the 35mm f/1.4. Don't take me wrong, both are really good lenses. It's just this that one pushes it further! I recommend it without hesitation.

I bought both the AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED and the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED last week from B&H.  Both are really great!  Images captured by my Nikon D850 with this 24mm are slightly soft at f/1.4 when viewed fully zoomed in to 100% (1 to 1) on my 27” iMac.  Zoomed out slightly from 100%, the f/1.4 images look great.  Applying a little sharpening in Capture One Pro on images taken at f/1.4 results in final images being indistinguishable when viewed at 100% from those captured at f/4 to f/8 without sharpening.  Very slight softening starts coming in again at f/11 when viewed at 100%.  However, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED is razor sharp even wide open at f/1.4 - this 28mm lens is absolutely outstanding!

Love this lens.

I was a little worried about the practicality of this lens as I expected to only use it for large landscapes. However I find myself putting on more and more for city photography. It provides an awesome immersive feel. Vignette that needs to be fixed in post at 1.8 and 1.4, otherwise amazing.

Great lens.  Love it!

This is the sharpest lens I have ever used. I am amazed at how much better it is compared to my multiple prior Nikon 24mm lenses. Great for landscapes and interiors. I debated buying the 24-70 zoom for convenience but I am very pleased with this purchase.

Hands down my new favorite lens! My main go to lens is the 85mm 1.4 but this adding 24mm to my lineup was a no brainer! Don't think it...just buy it! The price might scare you but it is worth every cent!! Thank B&H satisfied as always!!!!

Fantastic lens

Fast becoming one of my favorite wide angle lenses. Much sharper than the 16-35 mm f/4 lens that it replaced.

Can this be used with the GH5 and a Metabones Nikon G Lens to Micro Four Thirds Lens Mount Adapter?
Asked by: Evan
Yes but considering the price, you would be better off using this Panasonic 25mm f1.4 lens and no adapter instead: https://bhpho.to/3Cg7VSD. The Metabones adapter would make the Nikon lens manual focus only while the Panasonic 25mm would have autofocus.

How is this lens for astrophotography? Coma-free at its widest aperture?
Asked by: Christopher
The Nikon 24mm f/1.4G ED does not have significant coma correction at f/1.4, but its performance is decent at f/2.8. For a lens that performs better at wide open, very popular choices include the Nikon 20mm f/1.8G ED and the Rokinon/Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED UMC (https://bhpho.to/2O4tiAi).
