Covering a versatile array of wide-angle focal lengths, the AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR from Nikon is a flexible zoom ideal for landscape, cityscape, and interior photography. Its constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and suits working in a variety of lighting conditions. The optical design contains three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements, which greatly reduce distortion and aberrations for a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and accurate rendering. A Nano Crystal Coat has also been applied to control flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy in harsh lighting and backlit conditions. Additionally, this lens also sports a Silent Wave Motor for fast and accurate autofocus along with VR II image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 2.5 stops.

Wide-angle zoom designed for FX-format sensors, this 16-35mm lens can also be used with DX models where it provides a 24-52.5mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance and light transmission throughout the zoom range.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 2.5 stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.

I haven't had a chance to use this extensively in the field yet, but in playing around with it in my house and my yard, I am favorably impressed. Lightweight, yet solid. Zoom is internal. Controls are simple. Compact size. Nice images with no distortion that I could detect. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I can't wait to take it out and really use it.

I originally purchased the 18-35 f3.5-4.5 from B&H 6 weeks ago, I thought the lens was sharp enough, but really wanted the 16-35 f, 4, but it was out of my price range at the time. I can't say that the 18-35 was a disappointment. However, it felt lightweight and not exactly robust. So, When B&H dropped the price of the 16-35 by $300.00, it was a no brainer. I had to upgrade. So what were the upgrades? First, the quite noticeable difference in the max wide angle. Second, a constant f 4, as apposed to the varying f 3.5-4.5 as you zoom out on the 18-35. Third, I gained weather-proofing on the 16-35, that the 18-35 lacked. Fourth, The VR feature, which some may consider unimportant, has already come in handy in my first few uses of the lens. Fifth, and finally, This lens fits my hand perfectly. I love where it puts the center of mass in my hand while shooting. In summary, the images that I have taken so far, are tack sharp, even when I zoom in as far as I can, whether its on my 27 Mac monitor, or the back of the D850's built in monitor. Had I realized the differences in the two lenses, I would have paid the additional money for the 16-35 in the first place. P.S. Props to B&H for facilitating the exchange, even though it was slightly past their return policy time limit.

This lens is a great is a great compliment for my D780. I have taken sharp, clear pictures both inside and outside. I think the VR capability and the constant f4 make a great combination. I expect to use this lens for many years.

I use with with an F6 35mm camera. I have found this lens to be quite sharp from corner to corner. Good ultra wide zoom range. No vignetting, at least with only one filter attached. I didn't test it with two. Distortion at 16mm is nasty, so compose to avoid straight lines that run parallel along the edge of the frame if you want to avoid it being obvious. Distortion at all other focal lengths is much less of a problem. Of course, digital cameras can correct this distortion, but not film cameras. Be aware that this is a big heavy lens for a wide angle. You might want to check your camera case dimensions to make sure it will accommodate it. I can't get my F6 into my Ape ACPRO 1200 case with this lens attached, which means I have to switch back to my 24-120mm when I put the camera away. A pretty trivial inconvenience, though.

The Nikon 16-35mm f/4 VR will have barrel distortion at 16mm. but this is fairly easy to fix in photoshop, and isnt an issue at other focal lengths. It is an excellent lens, and would be a great option for shooting interiors.

Yes, this lens will work with a D3300 because it is an AF-S lens. However, because the D3300 has an APS-C sensor the equivalent focal lengths will be 24-52mm but should you move into a full frame camera in the future you are ready to go with this lens. Personally, I use this lens on my D300 and my D800 and it performs great on both.

Low light taking photos of what? If you shoot low light interiors and static scenes this lens is great. I am doing 1/8 on my D800 and getting stellar results due to VR feature. Note: VR drains battery a lot faster than non-VR lens. But if your objects are moving the VR won't help. You should go with larger F-stop prime (!) lens such as Nikon 20mm f/1.8 ED
