Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Microphone Basic Kit (Custom)

The Sennheiser ME 66 is a supercardioid shotgun condenser microphone designed to provide focused sound pickup for boom operators, sound engineers, and videographers in ENG, EFP, video and television production, broadcast, and interviews. Its supercardioid/lobar polar pattern delivers a tight, focused pickup area with effective rejection of sounds from the sides and rear of the mic. A wide 40 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response ensures accurate signal capture across the frequency spectrum, making it welcome for recording dialog, Foley, sound effects, and ambient noise.

With high sensitivity and maximum SPL ratings, it works well with a variety of preamps and can handle both hushed and loud sound sources. Its low self-noise yields an improved signal-to-noise ratio appropriate for typical digital recording systems.

The ME 66 easily attaches to a K6 or K6P powering module (required and available separately) for simple integration with standard microphone preamps. Its compact body allows camera and boompole mounting while remaining out of the shot.

The K6 Microphone System Powering Module by Sennheiser is the compatible base for many modular capsules. It features high output levels with low noise, a switchable bass roll-off, and transformerless balanced output.

The K6 can operate on a single AA battery (not included) or Phantom power. Its on/off switch also has a battery test position, so you can be sure you have enough juice. The K6's anodized matte black finish will resist abrasions to maintain a professional appearance, even under rigorous usage.

Power any device that accepts AA cells with this 4-pack of standard, all-purpose High-Energy 1.5V AA LR6 Alkaline Batteries from Varta. These German-made cells are non-rechargeable and feature an output of 1.5V. Additionally, they offer up to 80% more power in digital cameras than Varta Simply Alkaline batteries. The "Single Press Out" type packaging enables easy opening, allowing you to extract one at a time and providing storage for unused cells.

The Auray DUSM-1 Universal Shockmount features a four-point suspension to accommodate shotgun and other cylindrical microphones measuring 0.74-0.98" (19-25mm) in diameter. The shockmount is easily angled with its rubberized adjustment knob. There is a built-in shoe for camera mounting, and a 3/8"-16 thread connection at the base mounts the shockmount to boompoles and universal hand-grips.

When used on a shotgun microphone, this slip-on windshield is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in light breeze to strong breeze conditions (4-25 mph) and users can generally expect a 24dB to 40dB reduction in wind noise with negligible dampening of high frequencies. For most applications, the negligible high frequency dampening is a worthwhile exchange for the dramatic wind noise reduction.

The SBP-10 5-Section 10' Telescoping Aluminum Boompole from Polsen features 5 telescoping sections that can provide 2.8' to 10.5' of extension for your shotgun microphone. It is designed to allow you to get your microphone as close as possible to the source while still remaining off camera. When not in use, the pole can be collapsed to 2.5' for compact storage.

The boompole has a 3/8" thread, and a 5/8" adapter is included to provide compatibility with a broad range of mounts. It is constructed from lightweight aluminum and features a padded neoprene handle for maximum comfort in the field. The 5 telescoping sections have quick twist locks for stability. The SBP-10 provides wire management in the form of touch-tab straps. The pole's threaded bottom cap can be removed to allow access to a cable pass-through for installing your own cable.

The Auray Universal Microphone Pistol Grip is a handheld grip that features an ergonomic cushioned handle. This grip is great in "run & gun" situations in which a boom pole would be cumbersome, and in video scenarios in which the cameraman is also responsible for audio recording. The grip can be held with one hand, as opposed to a boom pole which requires two. It also provides the option of being able to record audio from a different direction than the camera is pointing, an advantage over camera mounting the mic. Furthermore, having the mic mounted off the camera prevents it from picking up motor noise from the lens focusing.
