Audio-Technica AT8031 overview

  • 1Description

The Audio-Technica AT8031 is a handheld small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone designed for close-up capture of vocals and various acoustic instruments in recording sessions and live stage applications. Its condenser element yields a wide frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz and a 137 dB maximum SPL. The cardioid polar pattern offers reliable on-axis directivity while attenuating off-axis sounds.

A switchable 80 Hz high-pass filter minimizes rumble and excessive low-frequencies. The supplied windscreen reduces plosives and wind noise. The AT8031 can be operated via phantom power or the included AA battery. It ships with a stand adapter and soft protective bag.

    Audio-Technica AT8031 reviews

AT8031 Handheld Small-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Microphone Great Price... I purchased this micrphone for public speech assemblies and I needed a micrphone that could use a battery when phantom power was unavailable. The pickup sensitivity is great, while the bass roll off switch is handy for outdoor use to reduce wind rumble. All in all, a great microphone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid interview mic. I'm a radio reporter and often do interviews in the field. I bought this to replace my AT 813a (a similar model that Audio Technica doesn't make anymore, and that I accidentally dropped). I find it's not quite as bright and responsive as it's discontinued cousin but it still does the job. Nice clear signal. I use it with a Sound Devices 722 digital recorder, which provides phantom power. But you can also load a single AA battery into it and it'll work with pretty much any recorder. Great mic for the price.
