    Canon RC-6 Reviews

RC-6 Wireless Remote Control is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 923.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what its supposed to do I keep buying them because they're small, slim, light and easy to lose! I find it amusing that a few reviewers have slammed this product because it doesn't always work from behind the camera. Its an infrared remote using the sensor on the front of the camera - so what else were they expecting... telekinesis? In fact, the device works at the side, above, below and sometimes even slightly behind the camera and unlike radio it doesn't need an additional receiver (something else to carry, lose or buy batteries for!). Any time my cameras are on a tripod (studio or location) I use this to trigger them and if I have to move an inch or two so what!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a GREAT product!! This is a great addition to my Canon Camera. I no longer have to depend strictly on the timer when I want to get into my own pictures. I can set everything and then causally walk into the place where I imagined myself in the picture. The when everyone is ready, I can push the button on the remote control and take the picture. I can also have the camera sitting in a spot in the room and when someone walks in push the remote control and take a picture without the person even knowing it was taken until I later show it to them. I do not know how I ever got by just using the timer alone on my camera. I will be using this remote button often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless operation in harsh conditions Our company uses the RC-6 in the daily operation of in-flight photos during hot air balloon flights. Our pilots wear protective leather gloves, and the flat wide profile with large, centrally located button is fantastic, as alternative models have previously proved too fiddly. Similarly, these remotes are exposed to moisture, heat, and dust regularly, and we have not had one fail yet. Our cameras are hung from the side of the balloon envelope, and are at least 4-6 metres away, and again, no photos have been missed due to out-of-range issues. We use our remote in the 2-second delay mode. I will continue to purchase and recommend these units.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This little unit is my new favorite tool Purchased this for a macro self-portrait series. For the most part, quite thrilled with it. It is supposed to work within 30' of the camera. I found that you really need to be direct line of site with the sensor on the camera, and even then, occasionally need to try a couple of times for it to register over 15' away. For the money you can't go wrong and it's a great tool to have at the ready when you need it. I've already loaned out to a couple of photo students who are now want to pick one up their own. Definitely beats the $300, gourmet, surveillance grade alternatives.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AVOID THIS PRODUCT This is a absolutely terrible product compared to what you can get for just $10 more. It's not radio operated--it's infared--this means that the remote has to be in front of the in fared receiver on your camera. This means there are many angles you can't operate it from. On top of this, you can't get fast continuous shooting. You can only shoot once every 1 second or so. If you go with a remote that's just $10 more then not only is it radio operated (meaning you can even shoot from the next room) but you can also shoot continuously, just like if you were pressing the camera button. I got this product and then immediately purchased the Vello RW-C2 Freewave for $10 more. WAY BETTER SOLUTION. Use this product only if you need a solution that is as small as possible (it excels at that) and will only be shooting casually from the front.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easier than most Maybe the best feature about the remote is its ease of use. It does not require (like many other remotes) hooking up a device to the camera itself. (At least not for a 5D) I just set the camera's shooting mode to remote and it's ready to go. Also, the remote itself is very small and light, and easy to attach to the camera neck-strap when not in use. The range seems a little limited. I wish it would work from further away. And it also seems much more reliable when there are no obstacles of any kind between the remote and the camera sensor. Sometimes even the lens can seem to get in the way, which of course, affects the angle of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but not as good as RF I bought this remote to use as part of a photobooth at a wedding where guests could make the camera fire. The remote worked 80% of the time as some of the guests had it pointed backwards or too far to the side of the camera for the infrared signal to be captured by the camera. The remote does work well as long as the operator understands that its like a TV remote and requires line of sight (or a wall to bounce the infrared off of). The battery lasted for at least over 500 photos and is still going. This remote would be better used for time-lapse purposes where the photographer is the person using the remote and understands its limitations. The remote itself is very small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a really useful tool! I have recently used this remote to cover some fireworks show in our place and i found it to be a very indispensable tool to accurately time the release of the shutter to capture just the right amount of burst from the fireworks display using the 7D's bulb mode. I'm sure we can all use the camera's shutter release time delay but we can't be so accurate in predicting that actual burst that we want to capture, can we? i also used it to eliminate camera shake in start/stop video recording with my 7D. just don't forget to switch the remote to 2s delay mode!it's very small, light and handy to even hook it up with your key chain! a great working tool indeed!
