It is supplied with a precision machined quick release plate that is well balanced and allows quick, safe and positive-locking of the camera to the ball head mount. The mounting plate can stay permanently attached to the camera to avoid taking the time to screw the camera onto the ball or screwing the ball onto the camera.

Will this ball head work with Arca-Swiss universal quick release plates?
The Matthews BH-30 Ball Head has not been tested with all Arca style plates. But the head uses standard Arca Swiss style plates, and should work with most.

are other shoes available for this head? More specifically I need an extended shoe with 1 or ideally 2, 3/8 screws, not 1/4 20.
yes,you can get other plates that will fit the BH30,in my case i just replaced the hole top plate with RRS quick release system.this is a vary good ballhead fot the price.
