Oben CTM-2500 Reviews

A great value in monopods

The Oben 2500 5 section carbon fiber monopod replaced a heavier, bulkier aluminum monopod. This is a excellent tool at good price. I like the sleekness and of course the light weight. It's not as stable as some at full extension (but I rarely use and anywhere near this length.) Consider heavier duty monopods if you are using gripped (heavier) bodies with heavier long telephotos. With my gripped Canon mirrorless bodies this is great with the 100-400 4.5-5-6 L IS II but I use a sturdier monopod with the 200-400 f/4L

I was so pleasantly surprised by the weight and quality of this. It seems there are hundreds of monopods to choose from but, simply said, this was a good choice. The adjustment knobs are quick, easy, and reliable. The quality is excellent. Love the really light weight.

Gray quality for the money

Probably one of the best monopods I've owned, the spike system is not very practical so if you don't care for the spike it doesn't retract and extend very well. I use it with a 500mm F4 and it's solid and easy to adjust.

Very happy with this monopod. Using it with a gimbal head and performs perfectly. Nice height - great buy.

Ideal for Lighter Weight Loads

Light weight of monopod and tilt head works really well for Sony short- and medium weight lenses. Tilt head is a wonderful concept. For a heavier 600mm lens w camera (9#), the additional stability of a Induro M505XLTH4 series works better for me.

I was looking for a reasonably priced monopod made in carbon fiber. This fit the bill. Upon arrival the product is very light and stable. Perfect length to store in my camera bag. Build quality is great and look for many years of use.

My first monopod

This monopod is light yet very sturdy, and can hold my heavy camera + lenses. It's light weight is not noticeable on my camera backpack. It opens and closes very easily, and seems flexible in the many options for using it. I got some sharp photos of Bighorn Rams from about 200 yds away at Glacier National Park at up to 400mm. This would not have been possible without the stabilization of a solid monopod.

Pleasure to use this monopod. I switched from a heavier aluminum monopod... the difference is noticeable. Easy to use twist lock. Highly recommend!

can this also be used, successfully, as a walking stick?
Asked by: nick
NIck: I have seen people use a tree limb of a walking stick so I assume you are asking if it would be a good replacement for or equal to a say a Komperdell walking stick. For me it would depend on how much hiking you do and whether or not your are taking photographs as you hike. As an avid hiker, backpacker and photographer I would put the monopod in my pack and pick up my pair of Komperdell sticks and use the monopod for what it was made for when I was taking pictures. Bob

question

Can this monopod also be used as a walking stick?
Asked by: Anonymous
I wouldn't recommend using this as a walking stick unless the situation demands it. The design of this monopod and the carbon fiber materials are not intended for the type of strain to be put on it such that one would commonly apply and count on applying to a walking stick. If you are just wanting to carry it to move the occasional stone or ward off a stray dog it would be fine.

Does this monopod work with Benro 3-Leg Locking Base For Monopods B&H # BEVT2 MFR # VT2? Thanks.
Asked by: Alexander M.
It should. The head has two sizes of female threads at the base. This head doesn't have a pan. You will need to rotate the monopod to pan.
