Williams Sound PKT D1-EH reviews

Pocketalker Ultra System Duo Pack is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very effective device for the hearing impaired. I purchased the Pocket Talker for my 84 year old mother. She had lost one hearing aid and broke the remaining one. Because she has been in the hospital we could not get her hearing tested for new hearing aids. The Pocket Talker has allowed physical, occupational and speech therapists work with her. She would not have been able to hear their instructions otherwise. The device has been so effective that I have shared information about it with my employer (a government social services program) with a recommendation that all of the social worker have one for use with hearing impaired clients. They are going to do it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two things you must change There are two Pocketalker's the Pro and the Ultra. The Ultra is by far the superior unit. Most older people suffer from presbycusis or age-related high frequency hearing loss. This hearing aid, the Ultra is designed to address this common problem. My hearing loss is rated as severe, without a hearing aid I hear little and understand nothing so I have to wear a hearing aid 16 hours a day.The Ultra has a very effective Tone Control. This control actually controls the frequency response of the amplifier which is very important and you will use it often to compensate for your surroundings. For example in an automobile if you select the low frequencies all you will hear is low frequency road noise. But if you select the higher frequency response the road noise will disappear and you will hear others talking. The Ultra also has AGC or Automatic Gain Control. The way it works is that with any high noise the volume is automatically reduced. But there are two things you should change right away and that is the headphone and the microphone. The most important item to change is the headphone. What they send is dreadful. What I have used for years is the Panasonic RP-HJE120S In-Ear Headphone (earbuds) ($6.23). These are very rugged, have good frequency response and will fit tightly and comfortably in the ears. With these earbuds and the supplied microphone and I can listen to a TV 20 ft distant with the TV volume set at normal level. So you do not need a 12 ft cord to hear TV just some good earbuds. The earbuds are stereo so you will also need a mono to stereo adapter such as the C2G / Cables to Go 03174 ($4.99). All of these items are available from *. I do not wear the earbuds with the wires hanging down my face. I get T-shirts with a pocket to carry my hearing aid. The earbud wire is hidden by my shirt and I feed my left ear by bringing the wire up the right side of my neck around to the back of my neck and into my left ear and then the same procedure for my right ear. Then there is the microphone. Others have noted how you pick up noise when the microphone rubs against a shirt or other garment. The microphone is a good one its just the style that is bad. What is needed is a microphone much like the TV news anchors use (a lavalier microphone with alligator clip). This type of microphone comes with about a three foot cord and is supplied with a alligator clip that can be attached to to the front of your shirt/blouse and in the winter to the outside of your coat. When I am in a restaurant I often place it in the center of the table. There are many to choose from and I have several. I like the Olympus ME-15 Microphone ($22.99) and the Olympus ME-52W Noise Canceling Microphone ($16.60). These will directly plug in and replace the one that comes with the Pocketalker. On the ME-52W the cord has a plug on the end so you can exchange microphones if you wish. That is, you can unplug the Olympus microphone and plug in the Pocketalker microphone still using the alligator clip. The bottom line is that I have a draw full of in-the-ear and behind-the-ear hearing aids that I spent thousands for and none are as good as the Ultra.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Alzheimer patients This product has proved a true Godsend for our family. One of our elderly aunts s now suffering from Alzheimers as well as losing her hearing. When we place the earphones on her head and speak to her through the microphone she immediately snaps to attention, looks directly at us and engages in conversation which is so fulfilling to both her and our family members. We think it is because all background distractions are eliminated and our words are amplified perfectly. We are spreading the word. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, I would! This device has changed my Mom's quality of life. She is bedridden and unable to have hearing aids re calibrated. With the Pocketalker we can hold conversations without shouting, we can all enjoy a tv movie without maximum volume. Worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from superior Hearing Aid My purchase of the Pocketalker was a blessing. My wife can't wait for me to put it on and turn it on each day, when she is trying to converse with me. She has a high pitched voice, which is difficult for me to hear. With this device, she comes in loud and clear. Browsing thru the B & H catalog, is what gave me the idea that they might have something far superior to the normal earbud type device, that a person sometimes spends thousands of dollars on such, and they still are not happy with the results of the expensive earbud device. I have also tried the earbud type, some of which have a frequency adjustment, but still lack performance. One drawbck is that certain noises are amplified to where they are objectionable such as a burst of laughter from persons sitting at a table next to you! Also clatter of dishes, etc can be amplified to become intolerant, and the volume control must be turned down for a while. I prefer the use of the headphones, which some persons may not like, but to me are preferable. I just wish that there was more adjustment to decrease the length of the headband, to keep it in place better. Many people have expressed an interest in it, and I highly recommend it. It would also be desirable to have a set of optional headphones that have the resilient ring to go around the ears. I consider it a definite replacement for a hearing aid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a bargain I bought this product for my hearing impaired Mother. Her hearing aid breaks at least twice a year and has to go back for repairs that can last two weeks or longer. She also has hearing aid fitting problems due to excessive ear wax and during this time the hearing aid whistles constantly until the wax is cleared by the physician. This caused many communication problems. With the pocket talker I no longer worry that there will be arguments caused by lack of understanding and I'm very relieved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend for seniors with dementia struggling with hearing aids Bought this for my father with dementia as he struggles with his hearing aids. Product is very simple for him to use, he hears better with this device even though is is analog and his aids are digital. Shipped right to my door, on schedule.
