Roland A-800PRO overview

  • 1Description

The A-800PRO from Cakewalk is a 61-key USB/MIDI controller that features a Roland keybed, and can be used in the studio, on-stage, or anywhere else you feel inspired to create music. The ultra sensitive keyboard provides an expanded dynamic feel, while new aftertouch sensors let you play more expressively.

The keyboard also features 8 velocity-sensitive, lighted dynamic pads for finger drumming and triggering loops and samples, with a HOLD button for latching. Console-style faders provide an improved feel while making tweaks and adjustments, and a dedicated transport section can be remapped if desired. A brightly lit LED display helps navigate the system menu.

The included Editor software makes creating new control maps, and transferring them to the A-PRO, simple and easy. And a Production Plus Pack software bundle includes Cakewalk Sound Center, Rapture LE and Studio Instruments Drums for Mac and PC, as well as SONAR 8.5 LE (PC Only), allowing you to start making music instantly.

    Roland A-800PRO reviews

    A-800PRO - USB Controller is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roland Lives Up To Its Name I've been a Roland fan for many years, owned many Roland keyboards and the Ax-Synth. That's why when I had to make a decision between the Akai and the Roland, it was really no question. Glad I chose the Roland. There is some set up involved (its not a plug-n-play), but if you follow the directions to the letter you will have absolutely no problem (miss a step and you will have a problem as I found out). This set-up takes maybe 10 minutes at the most. I use Mainstage 2 on the Macbook Pro and the Roland A800Pro works great with it. I would definitely recommend this midi-controller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from no regrets I'm no expert yet, but so far I love this controller. Mainly bought it for the interface with sonar and I'm not disappointed. Still learning.all the midi stuff but having a blast. I prefer a weighted piano but am surprised how good the feel of keyboard is.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mostly good Good product. Very compact and light which is why I bought it. All knobs and buttons feel great. Solid construction. The only downside is that the keys are a bit smaller than a normal keyboard and dont have really weight to them at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Hardware, OK Software This is my 4th keyboard midi controller. I've had products from Novation (Remote LE 25), Akai (MP49), Arturia (Analog Lab 49). I still own the Novation, even without automapping (it was just before that was implemented) it has fantastic software functionality and the keys are excellent. The Akai felt flimsy and toy-like, though the software was pretty good. The Arturia would have been fine but the editor for midi control was very buggy. Of these, I like the keys, knobs and sliders of the Roland the best. The editor lacks some of the functionality of the Novation and Akai units (two-way instant communication, the ability to choose step amounts on buttons- it allows only increasing by one). However, it does offer a wide variety of midi messages to send- sysex, 'free' midi messages (not even sure what that is), so it does have good capabilities. Realize, however, that you will have to spend time setting up templates for synths- the editor only comes with mapping for the most popular sequencing programs and, unless I am missing something, no templates for VSTs. Overall quite pleased with this and believe that it will be in my setup for a long while.
