BG-C3 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 20D/30D/40D/50D is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have item I put a vertical grip on every DSLR camera I have, it makes life so much easier when shooting verticals or to counterbalance a long lens. I recently accquired a used 40D, and when I went to find a grip-oh no, discontinued by Canon. I figured, what do I have to lose? I'll try Vello's grip. Apparently I lost nothing except the chance to spend more money. This grip is identical in fit and function to the OEM version at a fraction of the price. From this point on, I'll be adding Vello grips to my cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Matches my 40D nicely--looks like it could have been Canon's design. Holds two battery packs and has an adapter to use AAs instead. Seems like a quality unit. My favorite thing is the documentation. I always expect the booklet that's 4/5s legal dislaimers and warnings not to light it on fire, etc, but this one is very clear, written in good english, and really well done. All of it looks like it was made by people who care about their work. I'd try other things from this company.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for the price. I was really surprised by the quality of the plastic in this product, especially for the price. The rubber grip feels great and the controls feel solid. There's a holder for the stock battery door and an opening for the cord on Canon's ac adapter. I'd like to give it a five star rating but as far as I can tell the on off switch doesn't do anything. It doesn't effect the operation but if it's there it should work. My wife bought the grip for me off my wish list at B&H. All in all for the price I'm not disappointed. Using this on the Canon 50D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just as well as the OEM unit! I borrowed a friend's Canon EOS battery grip and loved it, but was not willing to spend the $$ for one. After viewing the reviews on the B&H website, I decided to give this Vello unit a try. When I got the unit, I was impressed right away by the quality and contents of the packaging. The unit is well constructed and fits perfectly onto my Canon EOS 20D. I shoot a lot of sporting events with shots in the vertical orientation, so this grip makes shooting photos a breeze. All the controls function just as the ones on the camera do, and the feel in my hand is great. I no longer have to worry about running out of battery power during an event and have to reload my spare battery. I very highly recommend this unit for those who wants the convenience of a vertical battery grip, but don't want to pay the full OEM Canon price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Purchased mainly for portrait work and haven't removed it since. Vertical shooting and overall camera grip is much improved. Very well made for the price, and considerably less than the Canon OEM. The 40D already had excellent battery life, and with 2 batteries it's thousands of shots. The AA cartridge is also a nice backup for trips just in case. The strap attachment point works really well with my OP tech sling strap, and I now prefer the way the camera hangs with this grip installed even though it adds weight. Probably wont' ever remove it. Fantastic value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Taking Grip The reason why you get a battery grip is to have the extra batteries so you don't run low on fire power & to have more comfortable hand grip with shooting in vertical for portraits. This does the job. BUT its not a solid build, when you screw in the battery grip it leaves your camera feeling a bit woobly. It does not hold your camera fully, I'm using this with the 40D and it makes me question if my camera is really safe with this on it because you can feel its loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get a Grip! Was greatly pleased with this grip from the moment I installed it. Felt good. Added that bit of extra balance I was looking for with the zoom lenses attached. Easy to install and remove if necessary. Plus it gives you that extra punch with your battery time. THANK YOU!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and convenient I have used it for two days in the field with 40D and 400mm on tripod, and with hand-held 17-40mm zoom. Worked as advertized with no glitches. I've had it only a week so will have to see how it holds up, but it seems solid enough.
