Bower SLY14MMF28C Overview

The Bower 14mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Manual Focus Lens is compatible with Canon EOS DSLRs with an APS-C sensor; it features two high-precision aspherical elements and two ED-glass elements. This results in better contrast and sharpness at the outer edges, and a reduction in chromatic aberrations that can sometimes be seen with high-resolution digital SLRs.

This bright lens provides an ultra wide 89° angle view in digital SLR cameras with APS-C size sensors and a 114° angle of view when used with full frame DSLRs* so you can capture sweeping vistas, dramatic architectural compositions and panoramas. Additionally, its minimum focusing distance of only 11" (0.28 m) will allow you to move in close on your subjects to achieve amazing perspectives. With a fast f/2.8 aperture photographers can create dynamic photographs that take full advantage of the characteristics of the lens.

* Note: Though this lens will cover the imaging sensor of a full-frame DSLR, it is better optimized for use with DSLRs containing smaller APS-C format sensors. As such you might notice softer focus and some light fall-off towards the edges of the frame when using a full-frame DSLR. If you do plan on using this lens with a full-frame DSLR we recommend you set the lens no wider (faster) than f/8 for optimum image quality.

Is this lens compatible with the Canon 5D Mk II camera body. Specifically, will there be vignetting on this full frame body, with this lens?If so, which would be a more appropriate budget conscious wide angle lens, without vignetting, for the 5D MkII body.Thanks.

Wrong answer. While the lens IS compatible with any Canon EOS body (crop sensor or full frame) the main reason the Product Highlights, in the description for the lens, states Optimized for APS-C Size Sensors is because of the vignetting on a full frame body. However, cropping the image after the fact to remove the vignetting is no problem.Remember, that with a APS-C sensor body, the crop factor doesn't make the lens shoot like a 22mm, it simply crops in on the 14mm shot image. It's similar to placing an 8x10 frame over an 11x14 print. Same perspective of the image, just cropped in. (I'm not saying 8x10:11x14 is same ratio of full frame to APS-C).Hope that makes sense!

Would this be good for Real estate photography?specifically for small spaces and rooms?

...Howdy, Joseph!...Yes...this would probably be the best lens for the money for shooting real estate and tight spaces, and is a very sweet lens...unless you need to drop down into the fisheye lens, but they will give you a lot of distortion...and curve all the straight lines in your pics, and lets face it...real estate is primarily straight lines! There is still a moderate amount of curving along the edges, but it is the trade-off for being able to capture most, if not all, of an interior space where there is no room to back up before being in another room or hallway......There is a purpose-built lens that Canon makes called a' tilt-shift', you can find examples on youtube, and this allows you to use a very wide--angle lens and yet eliminate the curvature and fall-away when shooting upwards or at angles...Not that easy to explain clearly in this limited space, but videos show it perfectly...the only drawback to using that lens is it requires some deep pockets...cos it aint cheap!...But you can always write this off as a legitimate business expense in your line of work....Hope this helps?

As this lens can focus down to 11 from the subject, can it be used, and considered, a closeup lens?

This lens is considered a wide angle lens. Any lens can be used to take a close up of your subject. This is dependent on your framing and the distance from the subject. That being said I would still classify it as a wide angle lens because of its angle of view. However, I have taken some nice close-up, not macro; photos with this lens.

Does this lens feature a hard-stop(or very close to one) when focusing to infinity? Because the pictures for this lens make it seem as though it does unlike the other brand's versions which focus past the infinite mark.
