The General Brand 52mm Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood helps to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by shading the front element of the lens. Its collapsible, rubber design enables it to remain on your lens at all times without requiring much additional space and it also serves to protect the lens from accidental impact. This lens hood has a 52mm threaded screw-in design and is intended for use with normal focal lengths.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not accept 52mm lens cap This is the second 52mm rubber lens hood I have ordered and found unacceptable. The first was Sensei. This was labeled General Brand online and Bower on its package. Since about 1970, I have used rubber hoods that were always threaded in front for a filter or cap of the same diameter as the rear threads. Burned by the first one, I read the details in BH listing for GB 52 and it said threaded 52mm in front. The one that arrived was not threaded at all. The online images are hard to decipher. Beware, one of the other online rubber 52mm hood listings mentions, way down in the detail, that you can buy a different size of cap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than hard plastic lens hoods I use these collapsible rubber lens hoods for all my lenses and prefer them over metal or hard plastic lens hoods. They provide good protection for the lens (in case of bumps) and since they collapse, they store easily with the lens, so there is no reason to take them off. Just a great bargain for a highly practical -- and necessary --lens accessory. I even use them for short zooms, as the collapsed position works for wide angle, and the extended position for telephoto. This particular lens hood I bought for a friend, when I gave him a gift of a Canon 50 f1.8 II lens for his Rebel. It works perfectly on that lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says it does I like this lens hood. It screws onto the front of my Tiffen 52mm UV filter and stays there. Be warned though, if you screw it on too tight, you'll literally unscrew the filter along with it when you take it off (lol). That's a funny quirk. Also notable, it will fit into my pants pocket without bulging out. It is definitely compact. My only real noticeable observation is that it's rubber, although I already knew that by reading the name of the product. You have to keep in mind that this is not a toy. If somebody wanted to be an idiot and warp/bend the rubber by leaving it in a hot area or cutting it with something sharp, that is possible. Anyway, it's a good product, I like it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indispensable I got this to replace the old, cracked hood on my Canon 50mm lens. It fits, it is convenient... and inexpensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product I've used one just like it from the same manufacturer before and have been really happy. The old one is over 40 years old and shows no deteriation. It collapses to fit existing cases and is a good bumper in case the lens bounces against something. BUT, do not use it with a wide angle lens unless you don't mind it encroaching in the frame a bit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not worth it this is so cheap that I decided to keep it rather than bother returning it. That's about its only quality. It is a cheap piece of plastic, and putting it over my decent quality lens and filter takes away from them rather than add anything. The mount feels cheap and imprecise, the whole thing seems a magnet for dust, and even looks bad on the lens. Either go with the metal Nikon hood or skip the hood altogether.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I've purchased these quite often so I ordered another one for my Canon 40mm lens. I like it because of the way it collapses for traveling. I can just lower it down when I need to put the camera away and not have to compromise on space in my camera bag when I travel. The only thing thats annoying is that if you dont notice its smashed down, it looks funny when your taking a picture with the hood smashed on one side. Which happens to me allot but thats user error. Overall I like using these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good hood Easy to use hood screws into filter threads. Provides some shade for the lens, and helps act as a 'bump' guard. Collapses upon itself for storage.
