The Tele Vue Starbeam Finderscope is an elegant and unique finderscope that can be used on all Tele Vue telescopes. Its unique flip mirror feature provides comfortable flexibility for viewing at any angle from straight through to 90°. Viewing straight through, you'll see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3rd of the Moon's diameter) "red-star" showing your scope's position.

When your scope is pointed high, flip the mirror into position for more comfortable viewing. In viewing this way, the sky orientation matches a refractor or Schmidt-Cassegrain' image. The size, color and independently variable brightness and variable blink rate up to continuous on, of the "red-star" makes it easily seen against any twilight or dark sky background.

With its 39mm effective aperture, the Starbeam's projected image is easily seen at any distance behind the Starbeam, be it 2" or 2'. The glass lens acts as a beamsplitter, combining natural sky background with the superimposed red pointing 'star'. The indicator will stay stationary against the background, regardless of how it is being viewed.

Accuracy of 6-arc-minutes at any eye position allows pinpoint object locating with high-powered eyepieces
Custom machined, black anodized aluminum
No tools required for alignment with your telescope

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Red Dot Finder I've Used I had a Tele Vue Starbeam many years ago but regrettably sold it. Since then I have used several other (less expensive) Red Dot Finders on various telescopes. None matched the ease of use of a Starbeam Finderscope... so I just bought another to replace the one I sold. The Starbeam does what every other RDF does: only it does it better. It's easier for the eye to pick out a target with a Starbeam. Unlike some other RDFs, one's head position isn't as critical when sighting a target through a Starbeam. And unlike several other types of RDFs, the red light intensity can be dialed down to comfortable levels; or if one prefers, it has a built-in blinking feature with an easy to control blink-rate. No tools are required to align, or re-align the red dot with the telescope's optical axis: a handy feature out in the field when you leave your Allen wrench or screw driver at home. I don't use the flip mirror feature, but some might find that useful. Is the Tele Vue Starbeam expensive compared to other RDFs? Yes. Is it worth the extra cost? To me: definitely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice design, but expensive This is pretty expensive for a simple red-dot unit finder, but the does have a nice design and matches my TeleVue scope and fits perfectly into the TV case.
