OConnor C1244-0002 Reviews

O-Grips Double Jointed Set is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply awesome grips. Very strong & light (solid titanium core), and highly configurable to whatever rig you need to build. The dovetail groove in the (top) connecting screw/ball joint prevents any twisting motion so they stay locked tight to each other...or to any matching component in the O'Conner O system, including the O-box (mattbox) which has three, 3/8 mounting points for the grips as well. A little pricey for handles, but they'll last a lifetime and work with any rig weight from D-SLR on up to the heaviest of systems. The design is almost like a work of art.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality counts. The O-Grips are expensive so I give these only 4 out of 5 stars but the construction, look, feel and operation is top quality. I use them with a 5D set up that includes a cage, power supply, SDI converter, external viewfinder and a Cube 150. My set up is a bit heavy and the O-Grips do remain rock solid as I operate the set up in different handhold positions. I will use these with each of my camera systems from now on.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Some Issues Yes they are built very solid. I have owned them for 3 years and they will outlive me but I have two issues. First each O-Grip is connected by 3/8th screw which is tightened using the provided hex wrench but they loosen frequently not to the point of coming apart but enough to to be annoying and this could have audible implications. The amount of torque required to keep them tight is far too excessive for my liking. The second issue is that because the handles are interchangeable the bottom steel female receiver (never pictured) is exposed. This receiver due to its locking design has fairly sharp corners. It has torn my shirt but more importantly it will scratch any surface you place your rig on. So be careful with the clients countertop for instance. I have remedied this somewhat by inserting two 20 to 3/8 16 adaptors but I really need something that is rubber. So why 2 stars??? O'Connor is charging a lot of money especially in an era of cheaper gimbal rigs and if they are going to ask us to pay this much they need to fix the problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tanks Are Built Like This When you purchase a tank reviews will say, built like O'connor O-Grips. These handles are SOLID! What I love...I am coming from standard handles on a shoulder rig. They work fine with the usual frustrations of movement when any pressure is applied. The o-grips are not only rock solid but the positioning is so comfortable. Because of the double joint articulation you can position the camera (pmw f3) in a much more balanced position. It feels right. The length of the second handle puts your arms in the right position...just above the waist. The handles themselves add a couple of pounds to your rig but being very weight picky myself I can say it's the best weight you'll add to your setup. Because of the improved balance the overall setup actually feels lighter. I justify the higher price of these handle with two things. 1. I love working with well built equipment. 2. These are the only handles I will ever need to purchase. These grips impressed me when I already had very high expectations. I'm getting my O-Box today so the setup will be complete.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from O-Solid!!! The O-Grips are super solid and highly flexible. It's so easy to adjust them to a position where your lower palm can help support the weight of your rig while your fingers control your follow focus. Perfect for times when you need to do your own focusing while going hand-held. At other times, it's just as fast and easy to adjust the position to most comfortably accomodate for whatever type of shot you're doing. The rubber jacket around the grips feels very comfortable and grippy in the hands. They are quite a bit heavier than I expected. However, as mentioned by other reviewers. The stability and solidity of the O-Grips are well worth the additional weight. One additional thing. The metal female joint used to connect each grip module together sticks out the bottom when the grip is fully tightened. It protrudes enough to make it a bit uncomfortable to rest the bottom end of the grips on any part of your body. So, I tend to put some cotton and gaff tape to the bottom for cushioning. Of course it doesn't look so nice, but it helps if you like jutting your hand grips to your body every once in a while. I wonder if O-Connor will make a rubber cap for that. It would serve to both protect the connector piece from having it rubbed against various surfaces and also whatever part of the body you tend to lean the grips on. In any case. Highly recommended if you can afford them.
