This large aperture beauty is designed with an SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element and a glass mold element which yield first-class, sharp image captures with high contrast.

    Sigma 85mm f/1.4 reviews

85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens For Sony/Minolta Digital SLR Cameras is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, bright, sharp - awesome! I have used this lens under the rather difficult conditions of a concert shoot. I hasn't let me down. The images are sharp where you want them to be, and my A850 has no difficulties focusing in low-light conditions. Working with this piece of glass is fun! The angle covered by the 85mm on a full-frame camera is great for this type of photography as it lets you compose your image just the way you want it. I had access to the side-stage and to front-stage at this particular shoot; I can imagine from farther away it would be too wide. The lens handles really well and it feels well-balanced on the rather bulky body of the 850. It feels like the solid tool that it is. And at bright aperture, it's just bokeh-licious!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable 85 1.4 After reading reviews till my eyes bled, I purchased this lens to shoot my daughter's basketball games. The quality of construction is great, and the lens performs flawlessly. Great IQ, with awesome bokeh. Sigma competes head to head with the big boys with this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for still, okay for video Bought this lens to be mated with a NEX-FS700 via the LA-EA2 A-mount to E-mount adapter. With an f/1.4 for under $ this lens is great. Light weight and compact compared to its counter parts. The electronic controls for both the aperture and focus work great with the adapter. The manual/auto focus switch on the side is convenient for disengaging the focus ring. The construction seems solid for a plastic cased lens. The focus ring is somewhat smooth with a tad bit of give though. Some draw backs, mostly from a video standpoint, the focus ring is geared very short making it hard to pull focus, especially with a follow focus. This is understandable as this is not a video lens. The focus assist in the NEX-FS700 corrects for some of this. The focus ring also spins continous making it even harder to use with a follow focus. The auto focus gears are very noisy. I use this lens in manual most of the time so it isn't a huge issue for video. Overall, this has been a fine lens and would work grear for cost conscious indie film maker. Having the full auto mode is certainly a selling point, especially for beginners who are just getting comfortable with prime lenses and the f/1.4 is a huge plus as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing piece of glass! I bought this lens for my A7 using LEA 4 adaptor. I trade in my CZ 24 1.8 that I'm using from my nex 7 coz I wanted to get a FF lens. I thought I'm gonna missed my CZ but after taking few shots from this lens I have no regrets in trading in my CZ. The pictures are beautiful and sharp. The bokeh is amazing, with fast auto focus. The motor is so quiet and I like the proportion on my A7.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens I'm using with my A7RII + LA-EA3 adapter. Image quality is excellent. Fast AF in good light. However, it does have difficulty in low light or heavy backlit subjects. And, focus appears to be off when subject is far away. Otherwise, for typical portrait shoots, it's very accurate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again I really like the performance and handling of this lens. It takes very sharp images without any noticeable defects or distortion. It's solidly made and looks beautiful on my Sony A77. You can't go wrong with this lens, and it' at a great price, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Lens The lens focuses quickly and the images are great. I was cautious about getting this lens because I wasnt familiar with the brand but after I used it I was sold. I would recommend this lens and I will also purchase the 50mm version as well.
