The Linhof Technikardan 23S is aimed at the discriminating hobby and professional photographer using rollfilm formats only. It is a fully adjustable midsize view camera with a Linhof Quicklock 23 type groundglass back. The rear standard allows the use of any of the Linhof type 23 viewing accessories. The front standard accepts the popular Technika 45 type lensboards. Its wide-angle lens capabilities allow the use of lenses 47mm and longer without recessed lensboards. The goal of its designers was to have studio camera features in a field camera size with interchangeable bellows, center swings and tilts with zero click stops, triple extension monorail, and precision-machined dovetail fittings for all movements which are positively secured with color-coded locks for smooth, rapid operation.
Front and rear standards rotate 90 degrees, parallel to the rail, making the camera flat and more compact for easy transport

Yes, you can use that camera with digital backs but you need a few adapters.First you need this one, Linhof Universal Digi Adapter 230 for Camera Adapter Plates B&H # LIAUDTK23 MFR # 001691And then you need one for the specific back. And with the correct adapter you can use digital backs that have Hasselblad V, H1, H2, H3 adapted digital backs, Mamiya 645 AF & AFD and Contax 645 backs. And this is a link to some of the backs. But you will need an additional adapter, http://bhpho.to/202CxjjAnd this is a link for some larger format cameras that are set up to take the a digital back, http://bhpho.to/1ONBk75.

There is a slider on the bottom and the side of the camera. What does it call and what is it for? thanks for the help.

Cameras like this have the ability to move the film plane and the lens plane. The movements are called tilt, rise and fall. With this ability you can correct for distortion/perspective or create it for effect. These abilities are very good to use for product photos and architecture photography.
