Nikon 1932B overview

  • 1Description

Excelling in portraiture, the Nikon AF DC-NIKKOR 105mm f/2D is a unique short telephoto prime characterized by its bright design and unique Defocus Image Control. The DC feature allows you to control the degree and placement of blur in an image, with the ability to make subjects stand out from the background or blur the foreground. The fast f/2 maximum aperture also contributes to depth of field control as well as benefits working in low-light conditions. Benefitting image quality, individual elements feature a Super Integrated Coating that controls flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in bright and backlit conditions. Additionally, a rear focusing system promotes faster, more responsive focusing performance and maintains the overall lens length during use.

Prime telephoto lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 157.5mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/2 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and using selective focus techniques.
Unique Defocus Image Control system allows you to control the degree and placement of soft focus in the image; by turning the DC ring, you can blur either the foreground or the background or produce an overall soft focus effect.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
A rear focusing design is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

This system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses. Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
Built-in lens hood helps to prevent stray light from causing flare.

    Nikon 1932B reviews

    AF DC-NIKKOR 105mm f/2D Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 96.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon classic focal length delivers Since I already own the 14-24 and 24-70mm zoom lenses, I was inclined to purchase the 70-200mm VR AF-S lens as the prefect compliment. As a pro photographer who has moved from Hasselblad and Leica to the Nikon D3, I have a bias to prime lenses. Since the VR 70-200 seems destined to be replaced by a lens more suitable to the FX sensor, I choose instead to purchase a series of prime lenses, including the 105mm. Don't let the age of the lens put you off. it is a stunning lens -- with added feature of modifying the OTF look of the shot. Creamy smooth bokeh and and extreme in-focus rendition of detail. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens I have owned both the AF DC Nikkor 105mm f/2.0D and 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR macro lenses and would like to compare the two. I like them both a great deal, but each has their strengths and weaknesses. AF DC Nikkor 105mm f/2.0D Faster auto-focusing, brighter in viewfinder, beautiful bokeh, sharp Has chromatic abberation, long minimum focus length, can flare I did not use DC much. Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR macro No flare, can get very close to subject, beautiful bokeh, sharp, VR is a nice to have slow, hunting auto-focus I could only justify owning one, so I kept the macro lens. I am occasionally frustrated by the auto-focus hunting. Both are great lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as it gets I use this lens essentialy for portraits. It is simply, one of the best lens I ever used on a Nikon DSLR! It's Bokeh is amazing, offering a smooth background when needed. And it can also be really sharp when stop down to /4. I also liked, a lot, of the DC system. It's something unique, that only Nikon offers, and 90% of the photographer's don't know about it. However, it does require a lot of learning to use it. The autofocus is fast, as long as you have a pro-body to pair it with. If you are into portraiture, simply buy this one. There are not going to have regrets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love... I just got the lens last week, and so far love what I'm getting out of this lens. I've only used it for portraits, mostly natural light (no studio work). Obviously, the reason to buy this lens is the bokeh, and I've been getting it in spades. The 105MM focal length has been handy indoors, and I feel like this focal length is easier and more useful that the 135MM. I have has some focus issues, but a little tweaking with the fine tune AF has cleared that up. I've noticed a lot of photogrphers complaining about the soft focus. This only happens if you mis-use the lens. You're supposed to match f/stop to the defocus control on the barrel (so if you're shooting at f/2, you choose the same f/2 on the defocus control). Anyway, if you use a number greater your f/stop, you DO get a soft focus. Used properly, this lens gets amazing results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I adore this lens I purchased this lens and also the 135dc lens from BH. They are both built like tanks, and solid construction. But, the 105 in my opinion for what I shoot rocks my socks! Super sharp, and great compression. Paired with my Nikon D7100 or D610, it shines. I shoot a lot of engagement and family sessions, this lens is my go to lens, and I say that with the 135dc being a close second. Both fantastic, so if looking at the DC lenses, you can't go wrong with either one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nikon 105mm AF-D DC Very nice lens optically. DC feature is simple and consistent yet VERY tough to master. Once you know what you are doing it offers some vast creative potential. Sharpness maxes out around f/6.3. Beyond f/8 sharpness starts to degrade (hardly a problem for a portrait lens though). Cons? Big one! Nikon gotta be kidding me making a lens at this price with 2 plastic rings. My focus switch ring is already broken after 2 month! I'm rough on my equipments - true, yet a legend does not deserve to be made of plastic. If not for the plastic rings that are pissing me off right now, this lens gets 4.5*

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Great Lens This is everything you want in a pro lens. Perfect clarity. Great color saturation. Good focus response. Solid build. The out-of-focus parts of the image are incredible and really draw attention to the subject. People have used the work creamy for the the out-of-focus parts, which I thought was silly until I saw the lens in action. It's the perfect word. The defocus control is a really valuable addition for portraits, but the lens is fantastic for lots of applications. It is a bit long for my DX sensor, but is great for all of the outdoor stuff. f/2 is a delight and opens up a new world of creative possibilities. I have noticed a bit of purple/green fringing when the lens is wide open outdoors and shooting contrasty objects (especially those in the background). A look around the Internet indicates that this is a common problem for fast lenses from many manufacturers. It does not happen often and has not caused me to lose any shots. Very highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible! This lens is insanely sharp! I've researched this lens online for 2 years. I finally pulled the trigger and purchased it, for a wedding I had to shoot. Plus I wanted to get more into portrait images. I am so thrilled with this lens. The BOKEH is worth it even without the DC. DC is an awesome feature too. But the bokeh is amazing even without the dc. The bokeh is like an artists brush strokes. I am thrilled with this lens and I decided between this and the macro 2.8. Glad I got this lens!!!
