Nikon 2150B overview

  • 1Description

The AF-S VR NIKKOR 200mm f/2.0 G AF-S IF-ED Lens offers a variety of applications for all kinds of photographers. Many will find uses for its expressive quality of emphasizing subjects in portraits by rendering background elements completely out of focus, while others will use it for its large aperture, superb clarityand immense potential with VR technology for shooting in low light conditions or from moving platforms.

The AF-S VR NIKKOR 200mm f/2G AF-S IF-ED lens incorporates Super ED glass - a significant new material that is more resilient than typical fluorite lenses and offers higher optical quality with exceptional consistency even at large apertures.

With a maximum aperture of f/2, this lens is a very fast lens that when combined with the advantages of VR technology, offers photographers remarkable shooting capabilities that may not have been previously possible. Nikon's advanced VR technology eliminates image blur caused by camera shake, particularly when shooting in low-light conditions, allowing photographers to use shutter speeds up to three stops slower (8x) than they would ordinarily use to get sharp, well exposed images.

Note: G-type lenses are fully compatible with all current camera models (as of 01/04). The older camera models F4, N90/s, N70, N8008/s, N6000 will only work in Program and Shutter Priority modes.
Note: VR feature will only work with Nikon's F6, F5, F100, N80, N75, N65, D100 & D1 and D2-series (or any newer model) cameras.
Note: AF-S feature is not supported by certain camera models. Please click here for a list of compatible models.

Fast f/2 capability allows subjects to be given more emphasis by throwing background elements out of focus
Super ED glass excels at eliminating secondary spectrum and correcting chromatic aberration and offers low refractive index and lower dispersion.
Includes: 3 ED elements, 1 Super ED element, 1 Protective glass (meniscus)
Vibration Reduction (VR) minimizes image blur caused by camera shake (cancelable). Two available VR modes :
1) Normal mode is ideal for most common shooting
conditions, panning, and use in combination with a tripod

2) Active mode is better suited to conditions involving more movement, such as
shooting from a moving vehicle or platform

2-Stage Focus Limiter Switch for faster AF operation:
  • Full (∞ - 6.2 ft.)
  • Limit (∞ - 16.4 ft.)
Internal Focusing (IF) design for smoother focusing and better body balance
Built-in M/A switch enables instant switching from autofocus to manual focus
Silent Wave Motor for ultra-fast, ultra-quiet AF
The rounded diaphragm (9 blades) makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural

    Nikon 2150B reviews

    AF-S VR NIKKOR 200mm f/2.0 G AF-S IF-ED Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Glass This lens is so sharp, even when shooting wide open. This is my favorite lens to shoot at a wedding because you can back off and shoot the emotions of the guests, the bride and groom and the parents without being obtrusive. The lens is heavy, when mounted on the D3 the combined weight is around 10 lbs. I love to shoot it handheld, but a monopod or tripod is highly recommended when shooting at low light and low shutter speed. Results are just gorgeous. Bokeh is silky smooth and contrast and color saturation are nearly perfect. Built like a tank, literally. Feature laden and the results speak for themselves. I promise you, if you buy this lens it will dramatically improve your ability to increase your money shoots. There are few lenses that offer the potential of this lens; it's simply awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, Low Light Impeccable Lens This lens is simply amazing in it's sharpness and low-light capabilities laced with my D3. ...I find the 200mm f/2.0 especially useful at indoor sporting events or those late afternoon shots where there's just not enough light for a great shot. Not only are the pics super sharp but I gain picture quality by not having to go up to the more grainier and higher ISO settings. From what I read I expected the lens to be unmanageably heavy and awkward, on the contrary, it fits into my hand like a gem and is more than reasonably well-balanced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for low light This lens has been the workhorse for me for sports and indoor performances without a flash. I currently use it on the D700 and D3. In most cases for theater I use the 50/1.4(on 1.6 or 1.8) and the 200/2.0 wide open with the D3 or D700 on 3200 or 6400 and get incredibly sharp images. The lens also tracks very well for dragging the shutter/pan shots of cyclists. For examples, take a look at vigorotaku.com under Nation's Triathlon to see what I mean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lens I am currently using the lens for high school basketball and have a very high keeper ratio. I look forward to using the lens for high school soccer and Friday night football. I have the 300 2.8 and it often is a little long so I plan on using this 200 F2 with the 1.4 and 1.7 teleconvertors to give me some flexibility depending upon available light. I may even sell my beloved Nikon 300 2.8 if the teles work out. As everyone else has said the bokeh is outstanding. Definitely a lens that will endure the test of time and give a lifetime of outstanding images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful telephoto lens I bought this lens to do indoor, fast action sports (table tennis, in particular). As long as you have the distance needed between you and the subject, this lens is awesome.I started out using autofocus, but quickly switched to manual focus for fast action shots.Due to the weight and bulk, this lens is definitely best used on a tripod. Problems Encountered: Nothing unexpected. Autofocus too slow for fast action sports. Not sure the VR makes much difference if you have a good tripod. Previous Equivalent Items Owned: 200mm Nikkor

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST NIKON LENS EVER! After reading the comments below, and saving $$ to purchase this piece of equipment, I couldn't be more pleased. ... I shoot wedding & portrait photography, and if the gentleman's review from Boston doesn't inspire you to at the very least try this lens, the YOU might be missing out! I just shot my best ever bridal portrait, and I have only owned this Beautiful Lens for three weeks! I thought the Nikon 105 DC was sharp, QUALITY! QUALITY! QUALITY! Having large hands, and strong arms, makes this lens fit PERFECTLY into my arsenal of lenses for portrait & weddings. Could be on the heavy end for most people, but the quality at f2 will keep you reaching for it. I knew after reading the rewiews that I should make this purchase, and it is a bit expensive, but if I had to choose between this lens and an upgrade to say a D3, I think the lens is a better choice, at least right now, until I can afford the D3 as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rent this once, you will be buying it! It is funny...photography even after 35 years is still a passionate thing. You find yourself, mid-workflow, pausing to admire a shot that just got everything right...this is a feeling I have known since my first print appeared in the tray as a kid. It is why we do what we do, it is the sweet treat amid the noise of all the thousands of shots that were good, salable, but imminently forgettable. What I am telling you is this lens delivers a lot more of those moments to you. This thing just kills, period. Sharpness, contrast and saturation like 3D, bokeh of all lenses should be defined by this one...fast and quiet AF, has a memory recall setting, superb VR, internal filters, and a really great case. It can focus in nearly total darkness, I am not kidding. It is big and thick and heavy, and not something you can handhold for long, and I am a big guy with large hands. All of 10 lbs+ with the body, so at least a monopod is needed, I added a big RRS plate to the tripod foot for greater stability. Anyway I had rented this a few times, experienced more workflow pauses admiring the results, and found myself jonesing for these results on other shoots. Wide open, shooting a face full frame, the difference between the liquid crystal clear eyes and the bokeh melted and so even and smooth near the nape of the neck, hair and shoulders is wonderful... definitely a money shot. I honestly have gotten more client comments on the drama and impact of the images this amazing lense delivers than in any other single piece of gear I have owned in 35 years. It is not cheap, and Nikon does not make many of them, so they are tough to get... just rent one, and you will find yourself lining up to buy one before you know it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 200 f2.0 vr A great lens for indoor sports, candids and portraits. Also great as a short telephoto with the tc-14e ii. I chose this over the 300/2.8 and have been happy with the decision. Reasonably good performance with the tc-20e ii, but slow autofocus except in bright sunlight, and must be stopped down to at least f/5.6-8. I shoot this wide open about 75% of the time, and use an ND filter if necessary. Recommended. Problems Encountered: None so far.
