Nikon 2156B overview

  • 1Description

Well-suited for subjects ranging from portraits to wildlife, the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED from Nikon is an 82.5-300mm-equivalent telephoto zoom for DX-format cameras. The versatile range of long focal lengths is ideal for isolating subjects and homing-in on distant scenes. Two extra-low dispersion elements are used to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range, for greater clarity, and a Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast. Additionally, a Silent Wave Motor affords fast and near-silent autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override.

Telephoto zoom is designed for DX-format F-mount cameras and provides an 82.5-300mm equivalent focal length range.
Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Nikon 2156B reviews

    AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 221.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Functional versatility The range of the zoom makes this an ideal lens for those who like wandering around in the outdoors. A recent excursion to some prairie nature trails in Illinois allowed me to capture some great vista shots as well as close up of wildlife on the wing. I carried an 18-55 zoom with me but for the most part this versatile 55-200 stayed on my trusty Nikon D70s. Pros: 1.lightweight 2.Versatile 3.Good focusing response Cons: 1. When putting the lens away I would recommend switching the lens to manual and turn the focus ring back until the extension is fully back in the body of the lens. If the last shot you took leaves the lens extended you can run the risk of stripping the focus gears if the lens should take a direct blow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to my Nikon Lense Selecti I shot film for years and the transition to digital was an obvious step. My 35MM camera was a Nikon and since I had several lenses, my new digital was going to be a Nikon also. After getting the new camera, I determined that a new lense would benefit my work. I did a lot of reading and research and the 55-200 Nikon zoom stands out as the right choice. I've used the lense on quite a few production shots and it is an excellent and versitle lense for my camera. Great Auotmatic Focus, super quality, and an outstanding product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh What A Lens I got this lens 2 days ago. Like anyone else, I did my research before making my purchase. I'm yet to test the lens to it fullest, but I'm TOTALLY impressed. Money well-spent. I'd previously purchased the 70-300,but it is nothing to compare with the 55-200. The 55-200 is not the fastest lens in the world, but, for someone who is on a tight budget, I have no regrets. It is a great companion lens for my 18-70mm. The only regret I have is purchasing the 70-300. Problems Encountered: None as yet Previous Equivalent Items Owned: 70-300 & 18-70 Items I Recommend: None as yet

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great package! Unpack and Go! I am a beginner DSLR user, with some point and shoot experience. I wanted to step up and buy a camera i knew i would be happy with for years to come. I trust Nikon brand as a brand that is durable and of good quality. I loved the extra 55-200 mm lens with the bag. Everything fit perfectly. I went online and researched this camera and found that it is very much user friendly and has in camera advice on how go use different features which is very helpful for a beginner. i like the vibration reduction in the wide angle lens as well. i really most impressed with the clarity of the pictures produced. great camera can't wait to continue to learn more about it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely Jazzed I am new in the photography world and this is my second lens. I am in love. I love using it to capture candid moments from across the room. It is so much easier to capture people being people they pay so little attention to me from so far away. I have not used it extensively yet but so far I am in love. It can be difficult to use in parties or intimate settings as you can imagine but I am still in love. It has worked out great for wildlife photos as well. I have no problems with focusing or weight. It is as light as my original camera lens and works perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the 1st one, love the 2nd more! I had this lens included as a kt lens when I switched to digital in '08. It worked beautifully for almost 4 yrs. before I felt the images started to lose their sharpness. Than after a particularly good drop I could feel the mechanics stutter and drag when I would try to change the focal length. I stopped using it for about 6 months, picked it back up and the stuttering was gone but it no longer worked as an auto focus lens and the sharpness was all but gone. I finally purchased a replacement a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier. It's a terrific lens. Crisp images all the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what I ordered I bought my camera a few years ago but didn't have the money to buy a zoom lens. Up to now I only used the wide angle lens that cam with it but, now I am able to do so much more. I photograph many things but the most important is my children. It is great to now be able to zoom on them from a distance and capture those precious moments!! THe lens was absolutely what I expected. I love the zoom range and the smooth focusing. The only thing I didn't like is the bulky hood that came with it...but that's because I now have to buy a larger camera bag for it all to fit in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 55-200mm lens i am so amateur that i really cant offer a technical review. ... the quality of the lens is superb (nicer than the one that came with my camera) and that the pictures are crisp and clean. i took pictures in near pitch black conditions from about 30 feet away and got a beautiful shot with no camera shake. i cant wait to use it more. definitely the best price i found online and, in my humble opinion, well worth the money. the screw on lens cap, lens hood and velvety bag for the lens were bonuses i didnt expect for the price. i will purchase from this company again for more accessories for my nikon!
