Nikon 2190B overview

  • 1Description

A macro telephoto designed for DX, the Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR is a 127.5mm-equivalent prime optimized for close-up shooting. Offering a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification and an 11.3" minimum focusing distance, this lens is especially adept for working with nearby subjects. Its optical design includes one extra-low dispersion element, which minimizes chromatic aberrations in order to achieve high clarity and color accuracy. A Super Integrated Coating is also used to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions. The Silent Wave Motor AF system produces fast, near-silent focusing performance that suits both stills shooting and movie recording, which can instantly be manually overridden by simply turning the manual focus ring. Further contributing to producing sharp imagery, VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by up to three shutter speed steps.

Telephoto prime is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount cameras and provides a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 11.3" to suit working with close-up subjects.
One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by three stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Nikon 2190B reviews

AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 167.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! First day I had this lens, I shot cicadas, bees, summer flowers and was thrilled with the hand held shots I got just around my yard. I was really thinking I wanted a 105mm or 100mm, but it turns out that the 85mm is good because I with a larger flower bloom I don't have so far away to get the image in the frame of my Nikon D7000. My pictures came out sharp and the colors were vivid. I also tried several head shots, and think this also a great portrait lens as well. I would recommend this lens to anyone who wants a great macro and portrait lens and at reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly sharp! To be honest, I wasn't expecting too much, for this price. But I was shocked at how amazingly sharp it is. Comparing it to Nikon's top 105mm f/2.8 macro it's virtually half the price, with one less f/ stop (which doesn't really affect the photo in terms of depth of field, it being a macro and all, nor in terms of exposure if you have a well-positioned flash), smaller (which might not add to the whole pro-photographer-mis-en-scene, but has no practical downside) and lighter (gentler on your back). The only thing I actually miss from the 105mm is the focus range switch, that would make it a tad faster to find the subject on the AF. Not a problem if you're faster on the manual focus for macro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I have been using this lens for amateur macrophotography - mostly watches and watch movements. I have been delighted by the performance of the lens. Crisp and rich images, no distortion, just a delight. Manual focus on macro is a must - autofocus does a lot of hunting - but this is very easy do to (using with D80 body). I've taken images at f45 with shutter speeds of 15 seconds with a tripod (and without the VR) and the results are great. Autofocus at nonmacro works quickly and this is a good walking around lens, too. It has a solid feel to it, like it is really going to last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for DX Nikons I'm a long time 105mm macro user from back in the days of film. Every one talks about having enough working distance from the front of the lens to the subject. Well for me a 105mm is too long, remember on a DX body, which is what I use a 105 is about 150mm, a little to far for my flash setup. The 85mm is about120mm, still a little long but ok. For me it works perfectly. It's also much lighter to carry. The image quality is as good of or better than the 105, especially when stopped down to f 16 or 22.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sharp macro lens. This lens makes nice sharp images with my D-90. It is very lightweight due to alot of plastic, but still feels well made. The autofocus speed is very good for general use, at high magnification however it sometimes hunts for focus as with all Micro lenses that I have used. (sometimes its better to use manual focus for high magnification) This lens also makes a good portrait lens. The VR is a big plus in most cases. I was deciding between this lens and the Nikkor 105mm 2.8 VR macro this 85mm has very good image quality and a much lower price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens This is a decent lens. I bought it though with the intention of using it for both portraits and macro work, and I decided in the end that the Nikkon 60mm AF-S G was better suited to my needs. Yes, the minimum focus distance on that lens is closer and may not work as well for people doing bug photographs or studio lighting, but for me its a better fit. This 85mm lens did really well in the macro area, but the bokeh on the 60mm is superior. The construction of both lenses is abou t the same quality (space-age plastic).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lense I have been a Nikon owner since the early seventies. I purchased this lense to go along with my d7000 nikon. I am very satisfied with my purchase. This lense is lightweight and compact. The AF/VR system works without a problem. The distance to subject is great as you don't have to be on top of the subject to produce a 1:1 reproduction. And a bonus is that the front lense thread is 52mm which means all my filters and lense attachments can be used saving me a ton of money. Again, Nikon has produced a quality Item at a resonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Macro Lens I've been using this macro lens for about 6 months now and it's a very good macro lens. I've gotten some awesome shots and when used with extension tubes you get amazing detail in your focus stacks. I love having the extra working distance this lens provides as well. Buy it.
